Blood Tribe Police Services in Alberta seized cannabis products and psilocybin from an illegal cannabis store on tribal land on May 10

Police raided the shop following complaints from the community.

Blood Tribe, also known as the Káínawa Nation, is a First Nations band government in southern Alberta. The community is home to more than 12,000.

Kainai Nation holds two reserves, Blood 148 and Blood 148A. Blood 148, the nation’s primary reserve, is the largest First Nation reserve by area in Canada.

Police seized 2,013 grams of dry cannabis, 838 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, along with cannabis edibles and other cannabis products, for a total value of approximately $60,000 from the store located in Moses Lake, near Cardston, Alberta. In addition, $14,674 in Canadian currency was also seized.

A 53-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, both from the Blood Tribe, were arrested on the scene. Both were released from police custody and charges are pending.

In a press release, the Blood Tribe Police reminded the public that the marketing and sale of cannabis and alcohol are strictly prohibited on the Blood Tribe.

Blood Tribe Chief and Council issued a Band Council Resolution in 2021 banning the sale of cannabis, alcohol and other illegal drugs on the Blood Reserve.
