Highsman, a cannabis lifestyle brand marketing itself at the intersection of weed and sports, launched in November 2021.

As part of the manufacturing and distribution partnership, TILT will carry the brand in its retail stores and via its wholesale channels in the two states. The move will expand Highsman’s current reach as of early September — just in time to kick off the 2022 football season.

The Highsman product playbook includes Pregame, a collection of energizing and attention-grabbing sativas, Halftime, a collection of balanced and restorative hybrids and Postgame, a collection of restful and recovery-focused indicas, per TILT, a global provider of cannabis business solutions. Through a portfolio of companies, TILT services brands and cannabis retailers in 37 U.S. states, Canada, Israel, South America and the European Union.

Gary Santo, CEO of TILT Holdings, says the company is committed to delivering a broad selection of the highest quality cannabis brands to the markets it serves.

Highsman CEO Eric Hammond says the company is thrilled to be teaming with TILT and to break into the East Coast market.

Pointing out that the brand “was created to inspire greatness in athletes and sports enthusiasts alike,” Hammond notes TILT “has a proven track record of significantly expanding the footprint of the cannabis brands they work with.”

And both Massachusetts and Pennsylvania are “two states that take their sports, and cannabis, very seriously,” he suggests.

For TILT, the Highsman brand from the Heisman winner represents the first brand it works with that is centred on sports enthusiasts and everyday athletes.

“As the stigma around cannabis continues to fade within the general population, most athletes are still playing in organizations slow to allow the use of cannabis for wellness and recovery,” Santo maintains.

According to The Sporting News, the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement from a few years back noted that players would no longer be suspended for positive cannabis tests, the testing period would be limited to two weeks at the start of training camp and the new threshold for a positive test would be raised.

The NFL announced this year that it would be pumping about $1.3 million into two separate studies — one Canadian and the other led by a team of Californian researchers — to explore using cannabis to treat pain and concussions.

Williams knows a thing or two about the pressures of professional football and the pains, both mental and physical, that can develop.

Williams, one of the greatest college football players of all time, played 11 seasons in the NFL. After his fourth violation of the league’s drug policy, though, he was suspended from the league for a year.

“The nature of cannabis is it opens your mind. It got me thinking differently,” Williams recently told Fox Sports. “[I]nstead of feeling like a victim, I realized that this was a wonderful opportunity for me,” he reportedly said.

Indeed, the former NFL great added that cannabis helped him to recover faster and not dwell on negative comments.

The announcement of Highsman’s launch last fall notes that Williams “credits smoking cannabis as a way of overcoming the challenges associated with being a professional athlete, from social anxiety to physical injuries.”
