It took about a month for the liquor licence of Burnage Cricket Club, where police had earlier discovered drugs, to be revoked.

Officers with the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) executed a search warrant on the club back on Aug. 5, per the GMP. Police confiscated drugs, a banned breed of dog, an axe, knucklebusters and a samurai sword.

At the time of the raid, three men were arrested, two of whom now face charges.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with possession of cannabis, while a 32-year-old man faces a count of possession of an offensive weapon. The third individual, who was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply, has been released under investigation, the GMP reports.

At a hearing on Aug. 31, the club lost its licence to sell alcohol “with immediate effect,” the police statement notes.

“Civil action is being taken in relation to the banned breed of dog that was seized,” GMP notes, adding the owner must attend Civil Court to have the dog returned.

Oddly enough, the cricket club bust was not the first place where a drug raid revealed samurai swords.

Last December, drugs were found in two vehicles after the West Midlands Police officers were called to a residential break-in and then led on an early-morning chase. Catching up to a stolen van after it crashed and was abandoned, the police discovered an “arsenal of weapons” that included a sword, a hockey stick, a hammer and a homemade stun gun.

A few months earlier in the spring of 2021, also in the U.K., two thieves opted for blades big and small — namely a samurai sword and a kitchen knife — while demanding a victim hand over both cannabis and cash during a robbery.

And in late November 2020, three men in the U.K. were arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession with intent to supply class B drugs, which includes cannabis, following a raid in Middlesbrough. Officers discovered an estimated $208,800 worth of weed, cannabis-infused edibles, illegal tobacco products, 30 cases of cider and, perhaps less expected, samurai swords.
