Montreal police carried out a search warrant today on a medical cannabis clinic operating without a licence.

According to La Press, police were seen carrying several large trash bags that contained cannabis out of the clinic, Clinique la croix verte, late Tuesday evening. The Montreal Gazette reports that police will have more details available in the coming days.

The company’s website says it’s been in operation since at least 2014, serving medical cannabis users a variety of products from cannabis flower to edibles, topicals, and tinctures.

Medical cannabis clinics like Clinique la croix verte have long operated in Canada, often with tacit tolerance form the local community. However, the only way to legally purchase cannabis in Canada is either through the medical system where producers ship product to consumers, or from a provincially-operated cannabis store. In Quebec, cannabis stores are managed by the province’s SQDC.

A business operating under the same name was first raided by police in Quebec City in 2014 but the Montreal location was left untouched.
