The men, aged 38 and 41, are being held on suspicion of possession of Class B controlled drugs and possession of Class B controlled drugs with intent to supply.

In a statement, Police Service Northern Ireland (PSI) decective inspector Shaw suggested the men have links to organized crime.

“This search, seizure and arrest was conducted to target organized criminality and our ongoing commitment to address the criminality linked to drug importation, supply and use that often results in drug debts, drug addiction and drug related deaths within our communities,” he said.

Shaw also added that he believed the cannabis was being used to fund “wider criminality.”

“Through Operation Dealbreaker, and the multi-agency efforts of the Organised Crime Task Force, we will continue to carry out operations, to break the cycle of those who seek to cause harm through the illegal importation and supply of drugs in Northern Ireland, and to dismantle the organized criminals who profit from this incredibly harmful activity,” he added.

Earlier this month, a vehicle stop in Australia ultimately led to the discovery of more than $10 million worth of cannabis .

The investigation began when officers pulled over a man and seized AU$264,000 ($240,240) of cannabis from his vehicle. That prompted them to search a nearby warehouse the vehicle had previously visited, where officers found an additional 59 kilograms of cannabis worth $354,000 ($322,140).

The next day, the police visited a grow site that was reportedly home to more than 3,000 plants. The crop was estimated to be worth AU$10.5 million ($9.6 million) and was later destroyed.

As for the driver, he now faces multipe charges, including traffucking, producing and supplying drugs, and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14, 2022.
