Recall of XMG Cola and Ellevia extract for packaging, labelling issues

Health Canada issued two new cannabis product recalls on August 17, one for Truss’ XMG Cola cannabis beverage and another for Mera Cannabis’ Ellevia THC Light 4:1 cannabis extract.

The cannabis beverage is being recalled due to packaging errors that could lead to pinhole leaks while the extract product was recalled due to a labelling error.

To date, neither company nor Health Canada has received any complaints related to the recalled lots. 

The recall of Mera Cannabis’ Ellevia THC Light 4:1 cannabis extract was sold through the Medical Cannabis by Shoppers Drug Mart platform. 

The product label listed incorrect cannabinoid activation values. The Total THC and Total CBD per activation declared on the label are lower than the actual Total THC and Total CBD per activation in the product.

The listed total THC per activation was 0.44 mg but should have been 4.4mg THC per activation. The listed total CBD per activation was 1.91 mg but should have been 18.8 mg CBD.

There were 121 units of the product sold from July 17, 2022, to August 5, 2022.

The recall of Truss Limited Partnership’s XMG Cola was due to an issue with packaging. Health Canada’s recall notice notes that pinhole leaks could develop in some of the cans of cannabis beverages, potentially leading to product leakage and loss of carbonation.

There were 37,379 units of recalled product sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan from April 29, 2022, and August 10, 2022.

Neither Health Canada nor Truss Limited Partnership has received any adverse reaction reports for the recalled cannabis product lots.
