The Business of Showing Up

In fast-moving industries, opportunity doesn’t wait.

It doesn’t happen on replay. It doesn’t arrive after the fact. And it rarely shows up through a screen.

Opportunity happens in rooms where decisions are made — where partnerships take shape, strategies are pressure-tested, and conversations unfold long before they reach social media.

This is the business of showing up.

For more than a decade, Grow Up has been built on the belief that progress in the cannabis industry happens face to face. Not just through attendance, but through presence — being in the room, engaging in the dialogue, and contributing to the conversations shaping what comes next.

As the cannabis sector continues to mature, the stakes are higher. Policy is evolving. Markets are shifting. Competition is tightening. The businesses that move forward are the ones that stay connected to the people, ideas, and insights driving change in real time.

The real question isn’t the cost of going.

It’s the cost of not being there — of missed conversations, missed partnerships, and missed perspective.

Grow Up Vancouver brings the industry together to do what matters most: connect, learn, and build the future of cannabis together.

What to Expect at Grow Up Vancouver 2026

What to Expect at Grow Up Vancouver 2026

An Interview with Randy Rowe, President of Grow Up Conference & Expo

Since 2017, Grow Up has become a cornerstone of Canada’s cannabis industry, bringing together cultivators, extractors, brands, retailers, policymakers, and ancillary services under one roof. With 11 major conferences and expos across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, plus six Industry Awards Galas and three Canadian Cannabis Championships, the event has earned its reputation as the largest B2B cannabis gathering in the country. For January 2026, Grow Up is relocating its B.C. event from Victoria to downtown Vancouver. We spoke with Randy Rowe, Grow Up’s President, about what attendees can expect, why the move matters, and how the event continues to evolve with the industry.

Grow Up has hosted 11 major conferences across Canada since 2017. What makes the Vancouver event a milestone for you?

When we launched, Grow Up was a small, community-driven event built around curiosity. Now, it’s grown into a national platform where every part of the supply chain shows up. Vancouver feels like both a next step and a full-circle moment. The city has always been a major driver of Canada’s cannabis story, from legacy cultivation to today’s craft and retail. Hosting the event here shows how much Grow Up has evolved.

Why did you decide to move the B.C. event from Victoria to downtown Vancouver?

It really comes down to access and opportunity. Vancouver is a global hub. It’s easier for both domestic and international attendees to get here, whether they’re flying in from Toronto or California. The new location at the Vancouver Convention Centre (East Building) gives us the room to expand programming, host larger exhibits, and welcome more attendees.

For exhibitors, that means greater exposure. For attendees, it means convenience and a smoother experience, from hotels and transportation to being in the heart of the city. It’s a strategic step for us that positions Grow Up as a must-attend event on the international calendar.

Grow Up is often described as Canada’s largest B2B cannabis event. What does that scale look like in real terms for someone who’s never attended?

Think of it as the industry’s working session at full volume. You’ll see thousands of people across the entire cannabis value chain all in one place. We run more than 100 speakers across multiple stages, a packed expo floor of exhibitors, and signature experiences like Masterclass cultivation sessions and our brand-buyer speed networking program.

It’s a high-energy, high-value environment where relationships are made, and deals are done. Whether you’re a micro cultivator or a national brand, you’ll find your peers, partners, and customers there.

Grow Up Vancouver 2025

What steps are you taking to make Grow Up Vancouver accessible and worthwhile for smaller cultivators, independent retailers, and start-up ancillary services?

Accessibility is something we take seriously. We know that many operators are navigating tight budgets and tough market conditions. No one should feel priced out of participating in their own industry, which is why we’ve worked to keep our pricing reasonable and offer early-bird options. Our presenting partner, Quality Horticulture, has also taken real initiative on affordability by securing $129/night room rates at the Sandman and providing complimentary shuttle transportation.

And once they’re there, we want the experience to deliver. We’re introducing flexible exhibitor packages and inclusive programming tailored to micros and independents. The Brand Zone is a great example. It gives smaller producers direct sampling access to over 100 licensed retailers and buyers. This is the kind of face time that doesn’t happen often but can move the needle fast. We pride ourselves on building a show that works for every scale of business, not just the big players.

The event programming always stands out. What can attendees expect from the Vancouver agenda? Any new formats or returning favourites?

Vancouver mixes Grow Up’s proven hits with a few new angles. The Executive Summit, returning for its second year, is powered by StratCann and will open the conference with a high-level forum for investors, executives, and policymakers. While our Main Stage, presented by High North, will dig into day-to-day conversations on retail, branding, genetics, and tech.

The CANNA Breeders & Genetics Zone is a big highlight for this year’s event, showing off the incredible talent driving Canada’s craft genetics scene. We’re also bringing back fan favourites like speed networking and the Masterclass cultivation sessions, which I mentioned earlier. Plus, we’re hosting the finals of the “So You Think You Can Cook with Cannabis?” contest.

And the social piece is still core to the show. The Kick-off Party on Monday and the Official Networking Party on Tuesday create low-pressure environments for attendees to connect.

How does Grow Up balance education with business, helping attendees both learn and make deals?

That balance is the core of what makes Grow Up unique. Our programming offers credible, actionable education that helps attendees navigate today’s market realities but also includes structured environments where deals can happen naturally.

Panels, networking programs, and even the social events are all designed with intent. It’s an event where learning and deal-making are built into the same flow.

Grow Up Vancouver Panel

How do you see Grow Up’s role evolving as Canada’s cannabis industry matures?

Our role is to stay consistent and keep the community informed and inspired. This industry has seen consolidation and plenty of uncertainty, but what hasn’t changed is the need for a place where people can speak honestly about what’s working and what isn’t. Grow Up is that neutral meeting ground. As the sector matures, we see ourselves as a stable touchpoint to regroup and reset.

What advice would you give to brands or retailers debating whether it’s worth attending or exhibiting at Grow Up Vancouver?

If your goal is to grow your business, there’s no better place to be. Exhibiting puts your product in front of hundreds of decision-makers. Attending means walking away with insights, connections, and real-time market learning that can immediately impact your bottom line. It’s an investment that pays off in relationships, exposure, and education.

Grow Up has always had a reputation for bringing the right people together. What’s your approach to curating the attendee and speaker mix?

We’ve always believed in representing the full cannabis ecosystem. That means balancing legacy voices with emerging leaders, established brands with new innovators, and ensuring representation across the industry.

When we build a program, we look for speakers who can offer practical, experience-based insights. People who can talk about real numbers, real challenges, and real solutions. That combination is what keeps the event grounded and relevant.

Looking ahead, how does Grow Up plan to continue evolving its events nationwide?

Our focus is to keep building a consistent national platform that also reflects the regional nuances of the industry. Every province has its own market dynamics, and we want Grow Up to continue being the place where those perspectives come together.

We’re investing in new formats, growing our online community, and continuing to host events across Canada that support the people driving this industry forward. From coast to coast, Grow Up will keep doing what it’s always done, which is support industry-wide growth and innovation.

Grow Up Vancouver takes place January 19-21, 2026, at the Vancouver Convention Centre (East Building). For tickets, exhibitor opportunities, or sponsorship inquiries, visit growupconference.com.

A Milestone Moment for Cannabis in British Columbia

A Milestone Moment for Cannabis in British Columbia

Grow Up Vancouver is proud to mark a defining moment for the cannabis sector in British Columbia. This year, we welcome the Honourable Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food, for a keynote fireside chat with Orville Bovenschen, President of Village Farms Canadian Cannabis, at the Executive Summit — presented by Quality Horticulture and powered by StratCann Media.

This appearance comes at a pivotal time. With the Government of British Columbia officially placing cannabis under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the industry enters a new chapter — one that recognizes cannabis as a vital part of the province’s agricultural landscape.

For decades, B.C.’s global reputation has been shaped by its farming heritage, craft cultivation, and world-renowned agricultural products. Bringing cannabis into this portfolio signals a meaningful shift: cannabis is no longer adjacent to B.C. agriculture — it is integrated within it.

This keynote conversation will explore what that future looks like, including:

  • How cannabis aligns with B.C.’s long-term agricultural strategy

  • Opportunities for innovation, producers, and rural development

  • Strengthening competitiveness and supporting sustainable growth

  • Building a stable, inclusive, and partnership-driven sector

  • B.C.’s vision for supporting communities, industry, and high-quality products

As one of Canada’s most influential agricultural voices, Minister Popham brings a perspective rooted in stewardship, community impact, and economic resilience. Joined by Orville Bovenschen — a leader shaping one of the country’s largest and most recognized cannabis producers — this dialogue will set the tone for where the industry is headed next.

This is more than a keynote. It is a milestone: a collective step toward a stronger, more integrated, and more empowered cannabis ecosystem in British Columbia.

This session is exclusive to Executive Summit Pass holders.

Seven Key Insights into Canada’s Pre-Roll Market

Seven Key Insights into Canada’s Pre-Roll Market

As the Canadian cannabis market continues to grow and evolve, the category that continues to drive not only innovation, but revenues as well is the humble pre-roll.

Simple in design but endless in possibility, the pre-roll is a signature product for the industry, an old school joint packed and ready to go, but with a fully modern feel. The portability and relatively inexpensive nature of pre-rolls make them perfect not only for someone looking to try a new strain or grab something for the walk home, but also for high-powered innovation like the addition of flavor-boosting terpenes or potency-boosting concentrates, all with a built-in on-the-go delivery system.

At Custom Cones USA, home of the Pre-Roll Experts, we took a look at the Top 50 Pre-Roll Brands in Canada, based on sales data from cannabis analytics firm Headset and we noticed a few trends and insights valuable to any cannabis brand looking to boost its sales and generate excitement in its products.

pre-roll-segment-total-sales-over-time-3423434

Here are seven insights drawn from the Top 50 producers that companies looking to expand their pre-roll reach should consider:

Pre-Rolls are King in Canada

Last year, after reviewing Canada’s sales data, we predicted that by mid 2025, pre-rolls would regularly top flower as the no. 1 category in the industry and by the end of summer, we were proven correct.

According to Headset data, through Sept. 9 of this year pre-roll sales reached $982 million and a 34% market share, up $72 million (8%) over the previous year-to-date period and on pace to break last year’s record.

By comparison, flower recorded $909.4 million in sales and a 32% market share over the same period, down $23 million (-2.5%) from 2024. Additionally, pre-roll revenue grew 4.3% year-over-year, while flower continued to lose market share, as it has since the legal market’s inception, seeing marginal declines last year.

So while they may have once been considered an after though, today, pre-rolls are the main driver of the industry and any cannabis company not making pre-rolls is going to be left in the dust.

Pre-Roll Trends

In Summer Months, Canadians Flock to Pre-Rolls

One of the things our research found is that while pre-rolls remain solid year-round, they are especially popular in the summer months.

Our 2025 State of the Canadian Pre-Roll Market Report found that for the six-month period of May-October 2024, pre-rolls outsold Flower by $33 million, peaking in July ’24 with a 3% lead in sales.

Though October numbers are not yet available, the 2025 numbers from May through September show a similar trend, with pre-rolls climbing to a 36% market share in July, August, and September.

Additionally, pre-roll revenues over the same period are more than $70 million higher than revenues for flower. The gap in units sold is even higher, with Canadians buying more than 35 million pre-roll units during the warm months, compared to just over 12 million flower units.

Infused Pre-Rolls Drive Revenues

Within the pre-roll category, the top-selling segment in Canada continues to be the single strain hybrid, however a lead driver of revenues continues to be the infused pre-roll, which have a higher price point due to the addition of a concentrate.

Three of the Top Five best-selling pre-roll products in Canada are infused products, including the top spot, as are six of the Top 10. And all five of the best-selling products from the country’s top selling pre-roll brand, General Admission, are infused products. So are those of the fastest-rising brand, No. 4 Jeeter, which also boasts the highest average price point of any brand in the Top 50 at $33.36, nearly double the national average.

With potency remaining a top factor for pre-roll and cannabis consumers in general, we expect infused pre-rolls, with their heightened flavor and increased THC percentages to only continue to grow in Canada, even as the single-strain hybrid remains exceedingly popular.

Multi-Packs Drive Sales

Another major driver of revenues in the Canadian pre-roll market is the multi-pack, with consumers wanting to get more of a good thing at one time to lower costs and save on trips to and from the dispensary. They also usually carry a higher-than average price point and help boost revenues for brands.

In fact, 49 of the Top 50 best-selling pre-roll products by revenue are multi-packs (the other is a 2-gram infused pre-rolled blunt at No. 48). All five of the top 5 products from each of our Top 5 Canadian Brands is a multi-pack, including 2-packs, 3-packs, 5-packs, 10-packs and even a 70-pack pre-roll product from the No. 5 business, Redecan.

Even by unit sales, multi-pack options fill the top five spots, and nine of the top 10. In fact, in the Top 50 products by unit sales, only 7 are single-pre-roll packs. It’s an easy way to move product and the data shows that not only do the people want multi-packs, the Top Brands are providing them.

Branding Matters

Along with potency and price point, consumers routinely tell us that brand ranks among the top factors for deciding which pre-rolls to buy and Canada’s top-selling brands all use branding to their advantage, whether on the pre-roll itself, the packaging or both.

This is especially important with a product like a pre-roll, that is often shared but has a standardized look, making it difficult to tell one from another.

The Top 8 Brands all use colorful and/or custom filter tips, most with a company name or logo, to ensure that their products are distinctive and memorable, even when outside of their packaging and being passed around a session.

It’s an important reminder that getting on top and staying on top means making sure everyone can see whose product they are smoking.

The Blunt Opportunity

Though not one of the top segments within the category, pre-rolled blunts remain a popular product for smokers and a potential revenue stream for producers.

Research in the US shows that blunts are the third most popular way to consume, with the category showing modest but continued growth in the Canadian market, though the numbers are deceptively low as Headset data will place an infused blunt in the infused category instead of the blunt category, skewing the overall numbers.

Though only 5 of the top 200 products are blunts, four of those five are infused. And there is only one brand in the Top 15 companies that focuses on blunts, No. 15 BoxHot. Four of BoxHot’s top five products are blunt products, and all four are infused. The company uses a tea leaf cone with a bright cigar band to stand out from traditional pre-rolls and other blunt offerings.

But the lack of brands in the space focusing on this nascent category makes it a perfect spot for producers to launch well-branded hemp wrap pre-rolled blunts and truly make a mark in the Canadian marketplace.

Innovation and Originality is key

With pre-rolls having a low barrier to entry for brands new and old, the entire category is ripe for innovation and experimentation. The top sellers consistently try new formats, new infusions, new branding, and unique packaging in order to stand out and stay on top of the sales charts.

New brands like Jeeter, the top American pre-roll maker, have taken the market by storm in 2025 with its color-coded, triple-infused pre-rolls, for example.

Other brands continue to innovate in packaging options with bright colors and fun names, like No. 6 Good Supply’s popular “Jeans Guy” and “Inzane in the Membrane” strains, the “Grape Ape” and “Motor Breath” from No. 10 Dab Bods or even the top-selling “Tiger Blood” line from General Admission.

Pre-Rolls provide an opportunity for smokers to take a chance and try something new, and producers need to lean into that, offering new strains and new styles, all with attention-grabbing names and packaging in order to truly stand out.
