Psychedelics Take Different Commercialization Approach from Marijuana

Psychedelics Take Different Commercialization Approach from Marijuana

The growing psychedelic industry is charting its own path to commercialization instead of following cannabis’ footprints. The psychedelics industry is basing its approach on facts and research, unlike cannabis, which centered on legalization.

Experts in the psychedelic field have been conducting research on the substances for decades now, which has led to the discovery of various benefits that psychedelics hold. Researchers started studying psychedelics in the 1950s, until two decades later when the Controlled Substances Act came into effect. This act made it illegal to hold, much less carry out research on these compounds, which were classified into different schedules.

It wasn’t until the early 2000s that scientists from John Hopkins University acquired regulatory approval to recommence studies into the substances. In 2006, one study determined that one dose of psilocybin was safe for administration and held long-term benefits. Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychoactive compound found in hallucinogenic mushrooms. Since then, over 150 peer-reviewed articles on psychedelics have been published in scientific journals.

Institutions such as Stanford University have become research pioneers in the burgeoning field while others, including the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, have launched the Center for Psychedelic & Consciousness Research. This center is dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of psychedelics and their potential for treating mental-health conditions, expanding understanding of consciousness and improving well-being.

Healthcare professionals haven’t been left behind either. Dr. Lynn Marie Morski, a former VA physician, helped set up the Psychedelic Medicine Association. This organization is focused on narrowing the gap between psychedelic therapies and conventional medical care through education, research and data.

The private sector is also helping advance psychedelic research, funding new research and commercializing therapies that incorporate psilocybin, MDMA and ketamine. Major players in the field include Lykos Therapeutics, a company based in California that has concluded two phase 3 trials for post-traumatic stress disorder. The company has also submitted a new drug application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for MDMA for use in combination with psychological intervention administered by qualified healthcare practitioners. The FDA is expected to finish its review later this year.

The drug’s approval would lead to the rescheduling of MDMA to allow for medical use.

Currently, however, it remains classified under Schedule I. Substances under this classification are said to have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use.

MAPS’ director of communications Betty Aldworth believes the private industry will play a crucial role in this growing sector. This view is supported by the R&D efforts currently being undertaken by for-profit entities such as Mind Medicine Inc. (NASDAQ: MNMD) (NEO: MMED) (DE: MMQ) that are geared at taking psychedelic drug candidates through the FDA approval process.

Community Savings Credit Union announces affordable invoice factoring for cannabis licensed producers

Community Savings Credit Union announces affordable invoice factoring for cannabis licensed producers

A BC-based credit union is launching a new invoice factoring program intended to meet the needs of British Columbia’s federally licensed cannabis producers.

Community Savings Credit Union’s new program aims to help provide BC cannabis producers with access to affordable and readily available working capital to support growth.

The “affordable invoice factoring program” will enable BC LPs to receive payments from their BC and Ontario government distributor invoices early. Waiting several weeks, or in some cases, months, for these payments can be a significant challenge for cannabis producers, especially smaller producers with thin margins and little extra cash flow.

Ensuring these producers can receive payments from the BC and Ontario distributors gives companies more leverage in the market and is a more affordable alternative to current factoring options available, says Community Savings in a press release.

Access to banking has been an ongoing challenge for the cannabis industry in Canada, with all sorts of companies that work in or serve the cannabis industry often finding themselves unable to access even a basic account, much less institutional lending. Community Savings Credit Union is one of a handful of organizations that have worked to create solutions for cannabis companies that other institutions turned away. They even recently launched an account specifically for micro-cannabis licence holders.

Mike Schilling, President and CEO of Community Savings Credit Union, says: “As a pro-cannabis credit union, we are proud to be the only industry-owned solution to give BC LPs affordable access to working capital from their provincial receivables. We have the ability to purchase every BC and OCS invoice for every BC LP today, helping BC cannabis producers with continued growth.”

Community Savings partnered with We Can Capital, which provides financial assistance for the cannabis industry, on the project.

Joshua Reynolds, partnerships director at We Can, says this new factoring program is a way to help out BC’s storied cannabis industry.

“In British Columbia, we are fortunate to have a long-standing and renowned cannabis market. However, cannabis businesses have not always had access to the full range of financial tools necessary for success. This relationship with Community Savings will redefine the role of factoring and demonstrate its value as an exceptional growth tool. We take pride in offering highly affordable invoice factoring that is industry-driven, providing BC LPs with access to their own working capital to maintain their status as leaders in Canada.”

One example Community Savings provides of how factoring can work is of a BC cannabis licensed producer selling $150,000 worth of pre-rolls to the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) with a maximum of 60-day payment terms.

“We know that sooner than 60 days payment can and does happen, but the consistency is unpredictable and not healthy for operational cash flow,” explains the company in a press release. “One week later, the LP received an additional order for $100,000 worth of pre-rolls. In order to fulfil that product order quickly, the LP sells the already-delivered OCS invoice to Community Savings Credit Union and We Can Capital for up to 85% advance against this $150,000 receivable for much-needed working capital, with a same-day turnaround on funds.

“The LP can now facilitate the production of the new order without delay. This instant cash can also allow the ability to negotiate better terms with suppliers that offer a discount for early cash payments. Without invoice factoring from Community Savings and We Can Capital, this BC LP would previously have needed to wait for the original payment to start an additional production run.”

Dayna Lange, the CFO of Tricanna Industries and Community Savings Credit Union cannabis member, says the program will help cannabis producers like Tricanna build better supply chain relationships.

“Having instant access to our own money has been a game-changer for the way we approach the continued growth and reputation of our business,” says Lange. “With a one-day funding and settlement model, we are able to continue to increase sales and maintain strong relationships with our suppliers. This is long overdue, and we are very encouraged to see mainstream financial services supporting BC cannabis.”

Cannabis producers in BC interested in learning more about the program can find more information here.

There has been a significant growth in both the THC potency and range of cannabis products in recent decades, according to recent research by the University of Mississippi’s School of Pharmacy. The study, conducted through the university’s Natural Center for Natural Products Research, involved testing marijuana samples seized in federal raids during the last 50 years. The findings reveal a significant increase in potency, with modern cannabis flower being 57%–67% stronger compared to those from the 1970s.

Since legalization in most states, such as Michigan, the cannabis market has undergone strict regulation and has expanded to provide users with even more potent products. Tyler Dutcher, who owns Barryton-based grow facility Vivid Farms, acknowledges the availability of highly potent products but also emphasizes the presence of lower dosage varieties to cater to different preferences.

Dutcher advises beginning with goods such as flower strains or infused edibles that have about 20% potency and progressively modifying the dosage according to personal tolerance. He notes that taking these products will give users greater control over their dosage.

Recent studies have investigated the link between cannabis use and psychosis, with The New York Times reporting on the risks associated with regular marijuana use, especially among teenagers and young adults. Another study published in the Missouri State Medical Association Journal in 2018 revealed that high-potency THC (greater than 15%) increased the psychosis risk threefold, with daily use leading to a fivefold increase in risk among individuals under the age of 18 years.

Timber Cannabis marketing representative Chivonne Rush notes that regulated dispensaries prioritize only adult cannabis use and are committed to educating consumers about the potential risks associated with marijuana use, particularly among youth. According to the Addiction Center, higher THC levels in marijuana products increase the likelihood of addiction and dependence. The organization noted that it is critical to find and carry out efficient treatment programs for people struggling with addiction disorders and that it is also critical to raise youth awareness of the risks and hazards that come with using these substances.

Dutcher advocates starting with smaller doses and being watchful for any unpleasant effects when it comes to intake, especially for nonregular users. He reassures that although some people may experience discomfort from consuming strong cannabis, major injury is unlikely and that education from trained staff at cannabis dispensaries is essential to encouraging appropriate consumption habits.

Given that marijuana industry actors have to compete with black-market products, the subject of the rising potency of cannabis products is more nuanced than one may initially think.

The Fate of Men in the Kali Yuga: Invisible Prison Webs of Tyranny

The Fate of Men in the Kali Yuga: Invisible Prison Webs of Tyranny

The Fate of Men in the Kali Yuga:

Invisible Prison Webs of Tyranny

By Susan Ferguson

A spider towers above the man bound in the sticky silver strands of a silent web. He struggles to escape, while empty, indifferent, uncaring eyes fix upon him coldly watching his terror. His writhing and twisting bind him, ever more tightly deeper into the spun web of a slow death.

The fate of men in the Kali Yuga has been no better than that of the women. In spite of the appearance of greater freedom, men in their own way have been just as oppressed and limited. Tyrants are never happy and all men have suffered greatly as a consequence of the suppression of women. None can be whole cut off from memory of Spirit — of Source.

For the past 6,000 years men have been forced to choose between becoming tyrants or the slaves of tyrants. With endless wars raging around the planet, men have been subjected to the horrors military life. They have been trained to reject emotional information, to endure pain in silence, and never cry. A man separated from his mother at an early age has little opportunity to cultivate tender feelings and makes a better warrior. Just as a woman separated from her father is more easily dominated, manipulated, and always seeking the lost father, she makes a better whore.

As cannon fodder the motto of men was often, “Ours is not to question why. Ours is but to do or die.” I sometimes wonder how many 1000s of men have spent days, wounded, lying on battlefields fighting off vultures and praying for the mercy of death – lifetime after lifetime.

The ancient Sanskrit PURANAS tell us that in the Kali Yuga: ‘Men will devote themselves to earning money; the richest will hold power’ – as if this is something bizarre, an anomaly. In today’s world a man is measured by the size of his bank account.

Young men, who do not have the opportunities that come with money, continue to join the armed forces. For a man the choice still lies somewhere between being a beggar and becoming a tyrant. But spending a lifetime in a giant corporation for a pile of possessions and a mortgage just doesn’t appeal to every man. Some dare to wonder why they should work all their lives at a job they hate and that bores them only to acquire stuff.

The purpose of life could not be merely acquiring things. There has to be something more than consumption. One might aspire to create beauty, to contemplate the universe or the meaning of life. Surely there are other pursuits just as valuable to a civilization than making mountains of money. A man who felt inspired to think, even driven to contemplate and meditate on the meaning of existence is out of luck.

The bitter truth these days is that, more and more, there are only two choices: join the corporate work force, or what is euphemistically termed the ‘service industry’. The millions who join the herd and get a job working for a corporation end up commuting for hours in toxic traffic to then sit in a cubicle in front of a computer all day. Most decide it is better to give up their right to choose how they spend their time, their life, than to go hungry. And of course there is the great compulsion of consumption.

Where in the Bible or any Sanskrit text, Hindu or Buddhist, or in the Torah or the Koran is the command that mankind must go forth and consume vast quantities of things? Why would any man give up every shred of individual expression and conform to a Borg-like existence in order to consume?

***

Is the world moving away from democracy? Are the giant corporations, who flagrantly control political parties with the big bucks that finance election campaigns, creating an environment tending toward plutocracy and oligarchy? Rule by and for the Rich!

For many years now there have been reports that the human race is poisoning the planet, the water, land, air, and food. Uncontrolled consumption is inadvertently killing animals, the fish and the coral reefs. The Earth is warming, the ice is melting, and no one has any real idea what this will mean for the future – or if there will be a future.

Only a few have ever dared question the fact that getting money has completely surpassed every other motivation. The old tyrant-priest caste has been replaced with tyrannical modern economists – all screaming their doctrines over the airwaves. Specific television stations are solely devoted to financial markets and many hang on every word spoken by the high priests of money.

Strangely the true genius of the most esteemed high priest of economics is his tireless ability to drone on and on in monotony, while he reveals almost nothing – just like a priest! Mysteriously and perhaps quite correctly, the Federal Reserve Building in Washington DC is decorated with rather sinister wrought iron black griffins.

Is our current Economic Era a subversion of a more natural cosmic order? The Age of Conflict and Confusion is the densest and most deluded cycle of time. Most people have no knowledge of the Cycles of Time, even though they are living within the fourth one. If this knowledge had not been intentionally hidden, everyone would remember that in other Eras, life on planet Earth was very different – better.

Contrary to blinded-by-science propaganda, the human race has not continually and constantly evolved as we have been told. The truth is just the opposite. The fact that economists have become priests is itself an excellent, if somewhat darkly humorous, leading indicator of a devolved state.

People have come to measure human progress by the systems of the distribution of wealth. We have become so lost, so clueless we no longer ask the essential question: What is the meaning of life?

The entire civilization seems to be in some kind of mass hypnosis. The altar of materialism brings forth more density, more delusion, as people’s thoughts have become solidified into the holographic reality. The more people embrace the religion of economics and its priesthood, and the more of their time they surrender to the pursuit of money, the more Mammon devours their lives — until its power becomes so great people cease to ask why.

The idea of economics as a ‘sublime and sacred destiny’ would have been an absurd joke in another cycle of time. Humans with a higher consciousness would have never considered the current obsession with the hierarchies of money as their destiny and dharma.

People continually argue about which economic system will bring them more money and more things. The culture now worships any fool, any blackguard and thief who can amass ridiculously enormous fortunes – when every day 34,000 children on this overpopulated planet starve to death.

The fractious arguments, asserting that one system is better than another, miss the point. People need to realize that they are under a spell, choking in a miasma of amnesia. The delusional myths of economics dominate our lives, to the exclusion of meaning.

There are very few places left on the planet that have not been intruded upon and have not yet experienced corporate hegemony. These few remote areas have yet to be inundated with consumer propaganda, raped and pillaged. Small pockets of consciousness, isolated tribes, remain free from the tentacles of consumption.

However these may also vanish from the planet — and soon, at the rate the multinationals are taking over the world. As predicted, the entire world population will find itself in an invisible prison – a prison of waveforms, thought frequencies, controlling and limiting human experience.

***

The human body contains seven energy centers of power, the chakras. These seven centers of power contain unlimited possibilities, now unknown to most. In previous cycles of time, we experienced far more than is currently programmed on our TVs.

In the time before Forgetting, when we were all still conscious of our being ONE, the birth of the galaxies, nebulae, stars and planets was experienced as if we were those cosmic creations. The experience of being the birth of the cosmos was surely a sublimely transcendental ecstatic orgasm!

All our lives we had been told that thanks to the miracles of production and capitalism everything is getting better for us. But every improvement seems to bring another, even deeper form of enslavement. Human consciousness is so completely inundated with propaganda that most no longer bother to question. Questioning the benefits of consumption today could be considered unpatriotic.

But is life better? No one has any time and everyone is busy-busy-busy working, participating in the economy. The family for better or worse seems to be disintegrating. If people really are happier now, then why are so many chronically depressed and why are 1 in 4 people in the United States obese? Not fat – obese. Including children.

Fast food is actually a symptom of the Kali Yuga, as predicted in the ancient Sanskrit Puranas!

The same food people ate before the 1950’s is now called organic and costs a lot more. People who care and understand are forced to seek out food that is hopefully not toxic. The ingenuity of modern chemistry has produced a scary food supply generously inundated with insecticides, preservatives, growth hormones, antibiotics, and EDCs, endocrine disrupting chemicals.

The best in people often emerges only under duress. Heroes simply do not thrive in a culture of numb, narcotized, passive, fat couch-potatoes. Millions consume what are deceptively called life-style-drugs. Not only do these manmade molecules weaken the individual will, they also successfully prevent individuals from the experiencing their lives and being able to grow from these experiences. However, they do keep the pharmaceuticals rolling in money.

The world seems chained to the machinery of economics. Even the entrepreneurs, the Type-A guys, the CEOs who run things have no true freedom. Like all tyrant-warriors over the past 6,000 years, people with huge levels of ambition are only ‘happy’ when they are winning and trouncing their opponents. Material ambition is like a drug, and just like a drug it leaves people empty, fearing old age, weakness, and death.

The fear of death drives men to leave their wives, to seduce and marry younger women. The rich and the powerful today insist that their females, who they see as trophies of their success and as property, remain young looking so they won’t be reminded of their own mortality. Plastic surgery is flourishing in the Twilight of the Kali Yuga.

Can any amount of material possessions be worth sacrificing one’s independence for? Is the quest for the means of subsistence meant to consume one’s entire life? When did people come to value things more than their freedom, more than their dignity – more than love, kindness and compassion?

At some point the goal of life became the production and consumption of more-more-more — no matter what the cost to the environment, to people all around the world, and to the planet herself. The Earth apparently cannot sustain what the West has conditioned people to desire.

The trap is set and unlimited growth is the grail. Unlimited growth sounds more like a sort of cancer. Every day environmental scientists are warning that the planet will not sustain the ongoing impact of consumption. And yet these warnings go on – unheard.

When men begin to see beyond the choice between being a beggar and becoming a tyrant, and when once again we all begin to look within for insight, answers and an understanding of our relationship to the Cosmos, there will be hope on the horizon for the emergence of a higher consciousness, Love, and the soft golden light of the next cycle of time.

The SQDC pulls back on operating hours of twelve branches

The SQDC pulls back on operating hours of twelve branches

The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) says it will be adjusting the closing time of a dozen locations across the province.

Beginning February 25, 2024, the twelve stores listed below will close at 6:00 pm from Monday to Wednesday rather than 9:00 pm. The change is being implemented due to lower than average traffic at these locations.

The SQDC says the new, revised schedule will be similar to that in effect in several neighbouring businesses.

The targeted branches’ operating hours will now be:

  • Monday to Wednesday from 10 am to 6 pm;
  • Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 9 pm; and
  • Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.

The 12 stores:

Earlier this month, SQDC also announced they plan to close one location in Montreal.  A termination notice was sent to members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the majority of union members in SQDC branches, and says the end of employment will be March 23, providing time to fully close the store down.

The SQDC currently has 98 locations across Quebec. This will be the first store to close in the province. In an interview with StratCann in 2023, the then-president and CEO of the SQDC said the province was shifting away from approving new stores with a new focus on approving new products to attract consumers.

CUPE president David Clément told the Canadian Press at the time that he believes the store closure was retaliation against the union for a job action against several SQDC stores that recently ended.

The SQDC brought in $33 million for its third quarter of the 2023-2024 financial year, which ended December 30.

Virginia’s Assembly, Senate Pass Differing Cannabis Sales Bills

image

The Senate and House in Virginia recently approved marijuana resolutions that would legalize retail cannabis sales in the commonwealth. Both resolutions would establish legal, regulated cannabis sales starting 2025, though considerable differences remain in terms of licensing, timing, criminal penalties, social equity, taxes and whether growers would be allowed to grow marijuana outdoors.

The house measure’s sponsor, Delegate Paul Krizek, stated ahead of the second reading that the time had come for Virginia’s illegal marijuana market to have competition from tested, safe and taxed products. The possession, use and limited cultivation of marijuana by adults in Virginia is legal, following the approval of a bill led by Democrats in 2021.

However, the re-enactment of a regulatory framework for retail sales was delayed when Republicans gained control of the House and office of the governor. This vacuum allowed illegal stores to flourish in an effort to meet demand from consumers.

As approved by the House, HB 698 would permit existing medical cannabis operators, about 60 equity-focused microbusinesses, and five hemp businesses to open for retail sales in January 2025. This is earlier than stores would launch under the approved Senate measure.

Marijuana products would have a 9% tax imposed on them while outdoor growing would be prohibited. HB 698 was approved in a 52–48 vote following its third reading.

On the other hand, the approved Senate measure (SB 448) would impose a 17.5% tax on cannabis products. The tax is made up of a 3.5% local tax imposed by municipalities, a 12.5% state excise tax and a 1.125% sales tax that will be allocated to fund K-12 education.

This bill was sponsored by Senator Aaron R. Rouse.

Retailers would be allowed to open their businesses later next year after going through an application and licensing process. Outdoor growing would also be permitted for smaller licensed cultivators. However, larger growers would have to cultivate their plants indoors.  A final vote on SB 448 is expected next week before the measure can be sent to the House of Delegates.

From the above, we can see that the Senate and House bills have significant differences despite all the revisions made thus far. It is expected that legislators will make further amendments before these measures can be forwarded to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s desk.

During the floor session, senators narrowly passed a separate cannabis-related resolution, SB 696. This resolution would permit individuals convicted of past marijuana crimes to be resentenced.

Multistate marijuana operators such as Cresco Labs Inc. (CSE: CL) (OTCQX: CRLBF) can only hope that the lawmakers reach a consensus that allows the residents of Virginia to access legally produced recreational cannabis products sooner rather than later.
