The world is currently in the midst of a psychedelic renaissance that has seen dozens of research teams worldwide dedicate themselves to studying the potential mental health benefits of psychedelic-assisted treatments. Although psychedelic research is still a new field, initial studies and anecdotal reports from users indicate that hallucinogens have many significant mental health benefits.

Psychedelics have also enjoyed increased mainstream attention in recent years partly thanks to support from celebrities and public personalities. These celebrity testimonies, endorsements and, in some cases, investments in psychedelic research have significantly increased public interest in psychedelics at a time when the United States is in desperate need of safer and more effective mental health treatments.

National Football League’s (NFL) Aaron Rodgers is one of the latest celebrities to throw his support behind the growing psychedelic reform movement. The football star has long been an advocate for psychedelic reform, and he recently spoke at the Psychedelic Science 2023 convention in Denver, Colorado.

Rodgers said that previous experiences with ayahuasca, a psychedelic concoction that originated from South America, have allowed him to boost his performance on the field. According to Rodgers, ayahuasca played a significant role in him achieving 48 touchdowns and five interceptions and becoming MVP while he played with the Green Bay Packers.

Like several other psychedelics, ayahuasca has exhibited some mental health benefits in initial studies. Research has found that ayahuasca may have neuroprotective properties that allow it to stimulate the growth of neural cells and protect brain cells. Furthermore, studies show the psychedelic concoction may alleviate addiction disorders and depression while improving mindfulness and boosting mood.

Since the NFL has verified that its policy does not ban the use of ayahuasca, Rodgers was completely in the clear for indulging in the psychedelic. The quarterback may have been ridiculed in the past due to his preference for alternative medicines, but he believes ayahuasca helped him up his game.

This February, the quarterback went to a four-day darkness retreat to help him “get in a better headspace and have greater peace in his life.” Speaking at the convention, Rogers said that athletes in the NFL and other sports leagues have approached him for guidance on how to take psychedelics. He said that people now have the opportunity to dispel misconceptions about psychedelics by sharing their medical and spiritual journeys with each other.

The recent psychedelics event was held in Denver, one of the first regions in the country to pass propsychedelics policies. Legislators in several states are now working to legalize the therapeutic use of psychedelics such as ayahuasca, ketamine and psilocybin mushrooms.

With more events similar to the conference in Denver likely to be organized in the coming years, the pioneering work being done by startups such as Delic Holdings Corp. (CSE: DELC) (OTCQB: DELCF) is likely to be showcased more, resulting in growing public interest.
