Matthew Scallion

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta where he studied Botany, Genetics, and Entomology through the Sciences faculty, as well as Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, and Agronomy through the Agricultural Sciences faculty. Matthew has been producing medical cannabis full time for the past twelve years, since the early inception of the MMAR/ACMPR regulations. Throughout his time of hands-on growing combined with studied learning, Matthew has been practicing breeding genetics under the moniker of 710Canuck. To date, Matthew has successfully curated seventeen different seed lines that are currently in rotation from various Licence Holders for use in Canada’s adult use market. Matthew is currently the Plant Breeder where he has developed a breeding program for producing unique cultivars blending old and new genetics to proprietary cultivars for the Canadian market.

Kala Sanmartin

Kala Sanmartin

Kala is an RN with 12 years of practice experience, mostly in the emergency room with some time spent clinical instructing and in community care. Eight years ago, cannabis entered her life bringing her freedom from her debilitating insomnia. A passion was ignited to learn about cannabis and teach others about the potential healing power of this plant. She partnered up with her lifelong friend, Heather Wilkinson, to create The Cannabis Nurses + Co. Their practice is now providing holistic cannabis nursing services and endocannabinoid system support to Western Canada and soon will be coast to coast. Their practice offerings include public speaking, group education and 1:1 holistic cannabis nursing support. Kala is also passionate about educating other nurses. In collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Integrative Nursing Development and Education (The CIINDE), she created a first of its kind accredited Holistic Cannabis Nurse Program. This program was designed to empower nurses to hold space, provide holistic care and advocate for individuals who are interested in incorporating cannabis into their lifelong healing journeys.

I’ve been growing cannabis organically for most of my adult life. I specialize in indoor growing but also love and respect outdoor cultivation. I’m co-owner and master grower of a licensed micro cultivation since 2019 called Lakeburn Craft Cannabis. We grow in horizonal soil beds and strive to be as regenerative as possible. The ultimate goal is to one day get DEM Pure certified.

Kyle is the Cultivation Manager at Lune Rise Farms, an outdoor cannabis farm located in Teeswater, ON. He has been growing plants and cannabis for the last 15 years and is focused on combining nutrient density with biology to produce high quality, aromatic and flavourful cannabis. Kyle has begun producing natural inputs onsite such as microbial inoculants, fermentations, fish hydrolysate and more to meet the nutritional needs of the crop while allowing the biology to express the full genetic potential. He also really likes weed.

John Slaughter

John Slaughter

John Slaughter is the founder and CEO of High North Laboratories.

In 2016, John started High North by analyzing cannabis for dispensaries in Vancouver and Toronto to aid in purchasing decisions and pricing strategies. In 2018, High North moved to it’s current 16,000 sqft GMP facility in Toronto, where it has performed over 500,000 tests on cannabis while exporting cannabis from Canada to more markets around the world than any other laboratory. High North has been recognized by the Canadian cannabis industry capturing lab of the year for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Before cannabis, John’s work experience was in the CPG, Pharmaceutical, Nutraceuticals, Chocolate & Candy, and Pet Food industries with such companies as Maple Leaf Foods, Johnson & Johnson, Mondelez, and Mars. John has an undergraduate degree from UWO and an MBA from the Ivey Business School.

Andrew Nunez-Alvarez, Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP) Class 20 Alumni, is the Founder and Project Lead Developer at LEGACYTEK: Medical Cannabis E-Commerce Division. Andrew’s mission is to help future generations of industry professionals become stronger leaders in order to shape the future of cannabis farming in Canada. Andrew’s passion for plants, technology and leadership is rooted in his journey cultivating medical cannabis for MMAR patients.

Andrew began his journey in cannabis as a Health Canada licensed designated grower for MMAR-licensed medical patients in 2011. Andrew was a formerly growing with the Hamilton Medical Marihuana Centre (HMMC) under Scott Gilbert, Andrew’s first mentor in the cannabis industry. Throughout this period, Andrew experienced first-hand the impact cannabis can have in enhancing a medical patient’s quality of life and recovery. The experience of growing cannabis for medical patients, to then becoming a medical cannabis patient to treat a serious injury, inspired his commitment towards becoming a leader in cannabis.

Andrew’s medical cannabis cultivation journey led him to pursue studying horticulture, cannabis production and leadership at an academic capacity. Andrew holds a certificate in Horticultural Sciences from Humber College, diploma in Horticulture studies from Durham College, post-graduate certificate in Commercial Cannabis Production from Niagara College and a professional certificate in Advanced Agricultural Leadership from the Rural Ontario Institute (ROI).

Throughout his academic career, Andrew received several honours and awards including the Landscape Ontario’s Ontario Horticulture Trades Association Post-Secondary Scholarship, Durham College’s The President’s Award for Excellence in Student Leadership, DCAA’s Leaders of the Future Award, Niagara College’s Certificate of Mentorship, Niagara College’s Certificate of Leadership, The Green Organic Dutchman Community Outreach Award, and more. Andrew led several clubs and societies, including the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy Durham Chapter, Durham College’s Horticulture Society, and Niagara College’s Cannabis Production Society, and is notably the former Managing Director of Durham College’s Students Inc. student association in their inaugural year.

Throughout his professional career, Andrew has experience in nursery and cultivation licensed facilities, in both production and quality assurance roles across Canada. Andrew has lab tech experience cultivating psilocybin mushrooms within an academic research lab setting. Andrew’s roles in QA led him to discover a passion in learning and simplifying complex tech, and developing user-friendly no-code apps that meet regulatory requirements within Health Canada cannabis facilities.

Andrew is an ENFJ personality type, Influencer in DISC and holds an innovative KAI score of 122 +/- 10.

Lindsay engineered and manufactured the first rosin press in Canada in 2017. Since then he has cofounded LP’s in Canada and the Caribbean. In 2022 his lab was responsible for 70% of all rosin sold in Ontario today Lindsay is back to making Solventless processing equipment and consulting for lab start ups in Canada and the US.
