Laurie Zuber – Horticultural Technologist & Professor
Niagara College – Commercial Cannabis Production
A well known ‘plant nerd’ to family and friends, Laurie Zuber is the Technologist and a part time Professor with the Commercial Cannabis Production postgraduate program at Niagara College.
Laurie worked for over 15 years managing plant production and operations at two large wholesale nurseries in Southern Ontario. When Niagara College launched its inaugural Commercial Cannabis Production program in 2018 Laurie had decided she was ready for a new challenge and enrolled because of her experience in commercial horticulture production and her passion for growing.
While enrolled Laurie worked at a cannabis facility and part time as a student technician with the Cannabis Program. After graduating, she joined Niagara College full time in the School of Environment and Horticulture where she oversees the daily operations of their Health Canada licensed cannabis cultivation facility aka “The Cannabunker”. Along with the rest of the team, she helps train the next generation of cannabis industry employees and entrepreneurs by developing and delivering labs and in class instruction. Laurie’s passion for student success and continuous process improvement elevates the program experience each year. She brings a creative and innovative approach to building industry relationships that further enhance the educational experience for the students.
Laurie also works closely with the cannabis research team to design and set up various project configurations of irrigation, lighting, and environmental conditions. She also supports research trials with data collection, pest and disease management, record keeping and subject matter expertise. Laurie played in integral role in the installation and set up of the new Cannabis Cultivation Research Facility in 2020.
An enthusiastic cannabis cultivator and nature lover, she freely shares her passion for horticulture with anyone who will listen. In her spare time, Laurie enjoys golfing, being outdoors and spending time with her family.
