Scientists from the Paris Brain Institute have discovered that psychedelic drugs such as LSD and psilocybin (magic mushrooms) may be able to treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). French researchers are now investigating whether LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) may also be effective against OCD.
As barriers to psychedelic research have reduced in recent years, researchers across the world have begun studying the potential benefits and risks of psychedelic use in increased numbers. Initial research found that psychedelics may be effective mental-health treatments, and a growing body of research has consistently found that they can offer long-term relief against a myriad of mental-health conditions.
Scientific and public interest in psychedelics has exploded in recent years, thanks to a plethora of studies associating hallucinogens with major improvements in mental conditions such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a mental disorder that causes people to engage in repetitive behaviors called compulsions as well as experience recurring and uncontrollable thoughts (obsessions). In many cases, OCD symptoms can result in significant distress and make it difficult for affected individuals to take part in daily activities, especially if the condition is untreated.
Paris Brain Institute researchers have now discovered that psychedelics such as magic mushrooms and LSD have shown that they can reduce OCD symptoms in some individuals. The French scientists analyzed the experiences of OCD patients who used psychedelics in the past to determine if the drugs had any perceived effect on the patients.
Cognitive neuroscience post-doctoral fellow Anne Buot says the research team recruited 174 participants with OCD symptoms who had sporadic or regular contact with psychedelic drugs. According to the participants, psychedelic drug use resulted in fewer obsessive thoughts, a diminished need to engage in rituals, reduced avoidance behavior and anxiety, and more acceptance of their condition. According to the report, 30% of the patients said the positive effects lasted for more than three months, indicating that psychedelics could be a relatively effective OCD treatment for some people.
Current OCD treatment protocols involve cognitive-behavioral therapies as well as specific antidepressants that can alter brain chemical levels to alleviate symptoms. However, around 30% to 40% of OCD patients don’t respond to cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT), and for those who do, it can often take weeks for the treatment to kick in.
With a flurry of studies finding that psychedelics can be effective against various mental-health disorders with few side effects, it was only natural that researchers would start investigating if the substances can also treat OCD, a condition said to affect 1 in 100 children and 1 in 40 adults in the United States.
However, the research team acknowledged their study’s limitations and asked that their findings be interpreted with caution. Buot notes that future research efforts will require contemporary approaches to fully understand how psychedelic experiences trigger the therapeutic benefits of hallucinogens.
It looks like the scientific community has only scratched the surface of the medicinal benefits of psychedelic compounds, and startups such as atai Life Sciences N.V. (NASDAQ: ATAI) could unearth even more medical applications for the hallucinogenic substances they are focusing on.

Alberta has recently made several changes to its cannabis rules and regulations, including enabling self-attestation for age-gating for retailers, providing producers with more information about where their products are selling, and allowing cannabis stores to use specific terms in their signage.
In two bulletins posted on October 13, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) informed retailers that the section of the Retail Cannabis Store Handbook (RCSH) that prevented the use of terms and images such as “chronic,” “stoned” or “high” has now been removed.
The section had previously read: “Signage may not promote intoxication. Terms and images such as, but not limited to, ‘chronic,’ ‘stoned’ or ‘high’ are not permitted.”
AGLC also advised cannabis retailers in Alberta that they can now allow for self-attestation as a sufficient age-gating procedure for their websites and social media content.
Previously, Alberta had one of the strictest age-gating rules of any province in Canada, with retailers unable to show product information on their websites unless users had verified their age with an ID, either in-person or through an online form. Most provinces simply require a self-attestation, such as entering a date of birth or answering yes or no to a simple age prompt.
Both changes are effective immediately.
Earlier this month, AGLC also shared with producers that it would begin sending them reports detailing sales of their products on a regional basis. AGLC will also share an “Alberta Regional Report” detailing all AGLC sales to retailers of general product categories for the month on a regional basis.
While producers will only receive the regional reports on their own products, the Alberta Regional Report will be available to all cannabis producers who sell into Alberta. The report will be anonymized and will apply to any product supplied by at least four cannabis producers.
British Columbia recently announced a similar program, although it goes even further, providing producers sales information down to the specific store.
AGLC also recently announced they had reduced the SKU listing fee for cannabis producers. Previously $1,500, the reduced fee to list a new SKU to sell into the Alberta market is now $250.

Online shopping has taken over, and yes, farmers’ markets are part of the virtual world, too! Already a burgeoning idea before the pandemic, they instantly became popular as an alternative for growers and customers during the early phase of the worldwide lockdown when access to in-person markets was restricted. Since then, they’ve continued to grow in number and have made supporting local growers and buying local and fresh produce easier than ever before.

What is a virtual farmers’ market?
Farmers sign up to become part of an online portal, like registering with a farmers’ market association to sell products at traditional markets.
Market managers coordinate the online portal, vendors, and communications with customers in the same way a manager coordinates your local farmer’s market.
Farmers are charged a small vending fee, with all direct sales from their online produce going straight to them.
As with the traditional farmers’ market, a virtual farmers’ market operates within a defined geographic area for vendors and customers; this does not mean you cannot shop at a market outside your geographic location. Just be prepared to pick up your purchases instead of having them delivered.

Most growers participating in online farmers’ markets operate small to mid-size farms. These farms sometimes struggle to compete with larger operations. An online market gives them an equal market share as all are promoted equally through the portal.
How does ordering work?
As with a traditional farmers’ market, the market is only open on specific days throughout the growing season. The market manager will notify registered customers that sales are open.
Let’s say the market starts on Sunday and closes on Tuesday. Between that time, you can place whatever items you like in a virtual shopping cart, pay for them, and guarantee they are held. Payment is made online through a credit card.
Delivery or pick-up options are within a week of purchase – guaranteeing produce arrives fresh.
It’s not the same as a CSA box subscription!
It is easy to confuse a virtual farmers’ market with a community-supported agriculture (CSA) subscription. Although both support local growers and provide the customer with fresh local produce, they’re not the same. A CSA subscription is prepaid with items selected by the grower. A virtual online farmers’ market lets you choose your desired amount and produce varieties.
Do some homework
Although vendors at a virtual farmers’ market are vetted the same as traditional marketplaces, it pays to do some homework.
Check certification. For example, does the grower have an organic certification, or have they been a member of a farmers’ market association in the past?
Do some price comparison and check out different vendors to get the best value, as you would at a regular market.
Does the farmers’ market have an app? Some do, and that can make shopping and notifications easier.
Does the market deliver, or will you have to pick up your purchases?
How to find an online farmers’ market

Because new markets are constantly coming online, current lists of those operating in your area may be sparse. Check with your local farmers’ market association; they can point you in the right direction.
Open Food Network (openfoodnetwork.ca) is an excellent place to search in Canada.
The Farmers Market Coalition (farmersmarketcoalition.org) also offers valuable resources in the United States.
Happy online shopping!

We live in a time when gardening and growing food are more important than ever. Piquing children’s interest is essential so they can help heal the planet as we grow older. While parents can do their part at home, integrating gardening and various growing methods into the school curriculum is an excellent way to get kids started on this adventure. From outdoor gardens to hydroponic and aquaponic systems, teachers today have incredible tools at their disposal!
My kids are lucky to attend a school with a beautiful food garden on the front lawn. In the spring, students amend the soil and plant the seeds. In the fall, they help with the harvest and reap the benefits. They don’t understand how much they learn while working in the garden. Practical life skills that also cover a wide range of subject matters, including math and science.

But being an outdoor garden, the growing stops throughout our long Canadian winter. I’ve recently been learning about aquaponics and how it can offer students incredible learning opportunities and nutritious food year-round!
What Is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics creates the perfect harmony between raising fish and growing plants. The two coexist in a recirculating ecosystem where the fish waste fertilizes the plants, and the plants clean the water for the fish!

You can grow many varieties of plants in an aquaponics system, including fresh herbs, strawberries, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce greens, and more. The symbiotic relationship between the plants and fish means that nutrients, oxygen, and water are abundant, and the plants don’t need to compete with each other. You can space crops much closer together than in a soil garden.
Types of fish that do well in an aquaponics system include tilapia, koi, catfish, and goldfish if you’re not planning on eating the fish. According to Sylvia Bernstein, author of Aquaponic Gardening, the typical rule of thumb is one fish for every 5 gallons of water.
Why Is Aquaponics Important?
With many concerns about farmed fish and the bacteria in those environments and many recent listeria outbreaks in lettuce crops, aquaponics is an entirely different concept that produces lots of clean, nutritious food and plants using a fraction of the water used for growing crops in soil.
This growing model is eco-friendly, convenient, and can be used year-round. An aquaponics system can be integrated into communities with limited access to fresh food, reducing food miles and creating jobs. The tanks also come in various sizes and can fit into any space, whether a community center, classroom, or living room.
Many existing initiatives have incorporated aquaponics systems into the classroom. According to The Aquaponics Source, this growing method covers many core STEM subjects, including math, biology, chemistry, and engineering.
They study fish, plants, and bacteria, all working together to create a vibrant and mutually beneficial ecosystem. Students can also learn how to do a water quality test and measure or track the growth of the fish and plants.
Outside of the core subjects, growing using an aquaponics system can help students learn the ins and outs of marketing, economics, and nutrition!
Various systems exist to fit any classroom size. Smaller ones can accommodate a few food crops for one class and some goldfish below, which might help with therapy for students in need. Larger ones can be placed in a communal setting where all students can visit and learn.
Research!
Research must be done before incorporating an aquaponics system into a school. Many aquaponics organizations and businesses exist, and you might find some opportunities for grants to help you with the process. After looking into it, I don’t doubt that aquaponics covers many bases in an educational setting while teaching essential life skills.

The term wax defines a highly concentrated and potent cannabis extract that can contain up to 90% of major cannabinoids such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD).
CBD wax is obtained from hemp containing high levels of this non-psychotropic cannabinoid. This extract is obtained through solvent extraction using butane or pentane as solvent. For this reason this kind of cannabis derived product can also be called butane hash oil (BHO).
CBD wax appears as a sticky semisolid resin with the consistency slightly more solid than a melted candle. This kind of cannabis derived extract is difficult to handle because of its physical characteristics and can be particularly potent so it is important to start with low dosages and slowly raise the amount consumed in order for you to check the effects on your body.
How is CBD wax made?
Butane can act as a solvent extracting the essential oils from cannabis trichomes present on hemp inflorescences. Alternatively also another hydrocarbon solvent such as pentane can be used or a mixture of butane and pentane. During the extraction not only are the cannabinoids isolated but also terpenes, flavonoids and vitamins. [1]
Amatorial producers usually perform the extraction using open loop BHO extractors while commercial extractors often employ closed-loop systems. With the latter set-up it is possible to make multiple extraction runs using the same solvent. The closed-loop system consists of a butane reservoir, trim tube, evaporation chamber, vacuum pump, recovery pump, vacuum oven, and gas detectors. [1] This system provides a more stable and environmentally friendly platform for dealing with volatile BHO. [1]
It is important to remember that butane is highly flammable so it is always recommended to operate in well-ventilated areas and avoid ignition sources close to the extraction chamber. It should be also noticed that butane is odorless and colorless so it is always recommended to use gas detection systems in order to detect machine leakages or accumulation of the volatile solvent in the area.
Butane is a non-polar solvent and the extraction of chlorophylls and alkaloids is reduced while increasing the extraction of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. Like for other extraction methods, prior decarboxylation of the plant material and winterization can be done before performing the extraction. [2]
The hemp inflorescences are put into a column or extraction cylinder and the solvent is passed through and heated at low temperature. Once the essential oils are separated from the plant matter and removed, the solvent residues are removed through gentle heat and pressure. What is left is BHO cannabis extract. Depending on the consistency thus the parameters used during the extraction process, it can be called in different ways including wax, shatter, errl, honey, glass, comb, etc.
If BHO extraction is performed using a professional extraction equipment it has several advantages over other extraction methods:
- Efficient
- Cost effective
- Safe
- Produce extracts with a nice taste
- Produce highly potent extracts
The overall appearance of the produced CBD wax depends on the chemovar of the hemp plants used as source material for the BHO production process.
It should be noticed that CBD wax can be obtained also from other extraction products using processes involving ethanol or CO2 as solvents, among others.
How to preserve CBD Wax?
It is a good practice to preserve cannabis concentrates in the fridge. With the exposure to sun-light or air humidity the CBD wax can lose some organoleptic properties and it can oxidize and harden to the butter consistency.
It should be noticed that high quality extracts come from high quality starting materials. For this reason it is recommended to perform the BHO extraction on plant materials that have been dried for 5/7 days. Nevertheless the best results can be obtained on fresh frozen buds: the terpenes content will be higher compared to dried cannabis inflorescences and the trichomes will be extracted more efficiently. [3]
What is the difference between CBD Shatter and CBD wax?
The main difference between CBD shatter and CBD wax is that the first one is hard and it is not mixed or manipulated to obtain new consistencies. Usually CBD shatter looks like a golden and transparent foil, fragile and prone to splitting after mechanical stress.
Instead, CBD wax is an opaque semisolid material, obtained with the manipulation and mixing of the evaporated cannabis extract. For this reason CBD wax doesn’t appear like an organized vitreous substance like shatter, but it appears like a soft wax. Generally the lighter the color of the extract the higher is the quality. This because it means the product was not exposed to excessively high temperatures or oxidized in the air. Nevertheless this rule can’t always be applied.
How to consume CBD wax
The potent and highly flavorful hemp concentrate CBD wax can be consumed by adding tiny amounts to a joint, but the most common way to consume CBD wax is using a dab rig. This specialized pipe has a metal or quartz nail that maintains the heat. Using a dabbing tool it is possible to take a small amount of wax and add that to the heated nail, producing a dense smoke that can be inhaled from the pipe.
Depending if you want to dab, vape or smoke your CBD wax different temperatures will be applied to the product. Ideal temperatures for vaping and dabbing CBD wax concentrates are between 148 °C and 230 °C.
It is highly recommended to “start slow and go slow”. Cannabis waxes can be extremely potent and even if CBD wax should not contain high amounts of the psychotropic cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), there is always a chance that some individuals can be more sensitive to this cannabinoid and could experience intoxicating effects even at low concentration.
Potential health benefits of CBD wax
This CBD concentrate can provide a variety of potential therapeutic effects including: [4][5]
- Relief from inflammation
- Reduction of chronic pain
- Lowering anxiety
- Reduction of seizures
- Improvement of the physical and mental wellbeing
- Reduction of depression
- Reduction of insomnia symptoms
Being a concentrated form of CBD, CBD wax has similar effects of other CBD extracts and preparations, just with higher potency. Although CBD wax won’t make you feel the typical psychotropic effect of THC, you may feel slightly euphoric, clear-headed and calm.
Wrap up on CBD wax
CBD wax and other cannabis concentrates are rising in popularity around the world. It seems obvious, but CBD wax and THC wax look like exactly the same product. The only difference can be seen through an analytical process such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
For this reason it is always recommended to buy your CBD wax from a reliable producer and to always check the certificate of analysis (CoA) of the product you are going to consume. From there you can check the levels of active constituents and be sure you are taking a CBD wax with low content of THC.
Consuming CBD wax is a flavorful experience, giving potential health benefits, without the unwanted psychotropic side effects of cannabis waxes rich in THC.

Freedom and the Splitting of Humanity
Seeking freedom and sovereignty only externally is futile as long as we have not learned to self-govern and self-rule.
And this is the hardest part of the work for the resistance of our lower nature, ego, unconsciousness/shadow with layers of suppressed wounds/traumas, programs, conditioning, attachments, and various occult forces acting upon us is strong…very strong…there are distractions and temptations everywhere.
The inner conquest is a battle indeed, much harder than the outer battle. Hence, many people avoid it and externalize everything, caught in endless victim/perpetrator/rescuer cycles, fighting shadows on the wall as they kill each other.
We must have faith and patience, for we are still little children in light of our evolutionary stage during this Time of Transition.
We cannot force the process, for the kingdom of heaven cannot be taken by storm. It can only be revealed by clearing and transmuting what is in the way of anchoring the Divine Light.
And this process does require conscious inner work with sincere aspiration. Sincerity with self is key and also the hardest to establish, no matter what image we try to portray externally or even to ourselves.
An intellectual understanding and pretense only result in spiritual bypassing and more lies to the self.
Be gentle with yourself, but don’t lie to yourself about what is necessary to truly awaken and live in the Divine as a fully spiritualized soul embodied Divine Being.
But before we can become spiritualized and bring forth the soul/true self, we need to become individuated and fully integrated internally [which is the purpose of shadow work]. This step cannot be skipped. Trying it only results in spiritual bypassing.
Most people are still in the consensus state of hive mind existence, identified with certain groups, cultures, society, religions, ideologies, political parties, and flags, where most of their desires, wants, and needs are also culturally/socially conditioned, or they are compensations due to [unconscious] trauma, insecurity, etc……like children in adult suits, trying to fill a bottomless hole.
Right now, during this phase of the “awakening” – which often implies a ‘shocking/rude’ awakening – millions of people are just starting their journey of individuation for the first time in their lifetimes.
They are just barely getting out of the consensus state of the masses and herd consciousness, which is already challenging as it means letting go of old beliefs, what they “thought” they wanted, and attachments to past associations, friends, and even family – and most importantly, who they “thought” they were.
It is a rebirth process. The old needs to die before the new can emerge.
Others fall deeper into the abyss of disintegration and won’t come out of this life. We saw it happening over the past three years, and it is now even more intensifying.
There is nothing wrong with this, for all there is are lessons in the bigger picture of the evolution of consciousness. Some need more lifetimes until the soul is ripe enough to embark on the process of individuation consciously.
It’s part and the reason for the “splitting of humanity” as prophesized by various esoteric traditions [not to be confused with the artificial Divide & Conquer agenda]. It requires the necessary phase of loneliness to establish healthy solitude and an orientation towards the inner life so we stop grasping externally.
Wherever you are on your journey and evolutionary trajectory, know that there is a bigger plan unfolding which you are part of; it’s a Divine plan, and no human will can override it.
The task is to align our little personal will with Divine Will, which is easier said than done due to the aforementioned [inner] resistance.
We still have a long road and adventure ahead of us and work to do. But it is the very reason we came here for and participate in.
The only way out is in and through.
Godspeed Bernhard Guenther
However, as Sri Aurobindo noted:
“…But this is an error; it leaves the money power in the hands of the hostile forces. To reconquer it for the Divine to whom it belongs and use it divinely for the divine life is the supramental [divine] way.
We look upon money as a power of the Divine, and, as with everything else, we want to conquer it for the Divine in life. As the money-power today is in the hands of the hostile forces, naturally, we have to fight them.
Whenever they see that you are trying to oust them, they will try to thwart your efforts. You have to bring a higher power than these and put them down.”

One year after President Joe Biden ordered a mass cannabis pardon and called for a review of marijuana’s status at the federal level, advocates and lawmakers are pushing for more marijuana action. President Biden based part of his campaign on cannabis reform and pledged to do things such as pardon Americans with cannabis-related convictions, something his administration set out to do a year ago.
However, cannabis advocates and lawmakers have long argued that the administration could do more to further cannabis reform in the country, calling on the Biden administration to fulfill its cannabis promises in full and on time.
Most agree that last year’s mass pardon followed by the directive to review marijuana’s federal status were major steps in the right direction. However, now that the mass pardon’s first anniversary has arrived, activists and lawmakers are urging the administration to take its cannabis action even further with the ultimate goal of finally putting an end to federal cannabis prohibition.
According to Congressional Cannabis Caucus cochair Representative Earl Blumenauer, the president must “send a clearer signal” that he fully supports cannabis legalization at the federal level. While Biden’s pardon and his call for a scheduling review were a critical step in the right direction, Blumenauer said “more is needed” to further cannabis reform in the country. This includes prioritizing efforts by Congressional lawmakers to “rationalize” America’s federal marijuana laws and reissuing Cole Memo protections, Blumenauer said.
Although last year’s mass cannabis pardons would theoretically benefit several thousand Americans saddled with cannabis possession on their records, advocates quickly pointed out that communities such as immigrants would be left out of the pardons. The 2022 pardons did not apply to people in federal prison, meaning people who are currently incarcerated in federal prisons for cannabis possessions have not been released. Furthermore, the pardon will not prevent Americans from being persecuted for cannabis possession in the future.
Cannabis Caucus cochair Representative Dave Joyce noted that while the federal government has indicated that it is keen on updating its approach to cannabis, he has seen little application of the administration’s rescheduling and expungement efforts over the past year. Consequently, Joyce said, he is “laser focused” on advancing bipartisan marijuana legislation in Congress to grant the state-level cannabis industry access to banking, incentivize cannabis expungement at the state level and prepare the federal government for marijuana legalization.
According to Joyce, such cannabis measures will force the Biden administration to take action and provide relief to the Americans still suffering from “unjust federal prohibition.”
Companies such as Aurora Cannabis Inc. (NASDAQ: ACB) (TSX: ACB) founded in Canada where marijuana is legal nationally hope that their neighbor, the United States, can also reform its cannabis laws so that citizens can benefit from this industry on a bigger scale through employment, entrepreneurship and so on.
