After every other perennial has finished in the garden, my toad lily (Tricyrtis hirta ) blooms. The irony is that it was one of the first perennials to break ground in the spring, their elongated shiny leaves popping out alongside daffodils and tulips. But, despite growing tall quickly, they played the long game, holding back throughout the summer while other perennials bloomed. They make their entrance at the last moment. Tiny, speckled flowers resembling an orchid finally burst open on arching stems in a ladder-like fashion. You have to love an attention-seeker like that!
Light and Soil
Toad lilies are perfect for the shade garden. Found growing wild at the edge of woodlands, streams, and creeks, they thrive in a sun-to-part shade mix. The more moisture the plant can absorb from the soil, the taller it grows.
Propagation
Toad lilies will spread slowly through their underground network of rhizomes, creating a nice clump in the autumn garden. Because of this aspect, they are not suitable for container gardens. They like to spread their wings, and new shoots will extend from the parent plant up to 12 inches.
The best time to divide the plant is early spring. Toad lilies are one of the easiest perennials to divide; dig in where a new set of emerging thick green leaves has appeared.
Make sure to get enough roots and transplant them throughout the garden. In my experience, toad lilies will take readily to any new location and may even produce new shoots and flowers before the end of the season if divided early enough.
Hardiness
Most varieties are hardy to at least Zone 5 (-29°C). Rain doesn’t bother the flowers, but wind is not the plant’s friend. Instead of letting the stems arch, I stake them to grow upright at the beginning of the season. This creates more garden space and keeps the plants tidy and secure.
Varieties
There are many varieties of toad lilies. The common toad lily grows in my garden. The orchid-like blooms are white with dark purple spots.
But other popular varieties include ‘White Towers,’ which bears pure-white flowers in late summer and fall on 2-foot-tall stems. The Tojen toad lily has lavender flowers in early fall.
Drawbacks: Pest and Diseases
The plant is deer-resistant, but slugs, snails, and rabbits will munch on the leaves. Keep kitty away, as toad lilies are toxic to cats.
To keep fungal diseases like powdery mildew at bay, always water at the base of the plant. Other than that, as the tag that came with them said, toad lilies are an easy and enjoyable plant to grow in your garden. I am a huge fan, and I hope you will be too!
Brands are fond of making grand claims that their product is somehow superior to others. Sadly, the reality doesn’t always align with the pitch.
Given that the market is already familiar with how claims of inflated THC levels have harmed the industry, it is being left to retailers to assess a wide range of sometimes vague claims to protect their customers’ interests, as well as their reputation.
“I lose some confidence in those companies whose products don’t match the hype,”
says RJ Fafard, director of retail operations at The Pot Shack in Saskatoon. “Many LPs will claim that their cannabis is the smoothest and that the effects are better than anything out there.”
“Depending on the category, there’s usually a buzzword to go along with it—we hear a lot about ‘hang dry’, ‘cured’, ‘hand trimmed’, or ‘hand finished’…”
It is, of course, statistically impossible for all products to be superior. Companies face reputational risk if they overdo it.
“Some exaggeration is to be expected in these situations, but there is a very fine line,” says Ariel Glinter, head of business development and regulatory compliance for The Joint Cannabis Shop in Winnipeg. “At this point, the most common exaggerated claim is usually about how popular the products are.”
Given that it’s the budtenders who have to stand behind the products they sell, the best retailers conduct their own assessments. From a reputational standpoint, this is one area where the bigger players may be operating at a disadvantage.
“I tend to take the smaller operators at their word, as they typically follow through,” says Ryan Roch, the owner of Lake City Cannabis, with locations in Calgary and Chestermere. “However, it’s become a case of proof in the pudding. You have to see it to believe it.”
Pushing back
Retailers tell StratCann that when a producer’s claims don’t stand up, the best approach is to discuss a product’s shortcomings with the company, hoping that the feedback will lead to improvements. Otherwise, it’s inevitable that some confidence will be lost.
Part of the challenge is also to wade through the marketing language. While it may be common for brands to assert that their product is the ‘best’, according to one criterion or another, the actual value proposition can be poorly defined.
“Depending on the category, there’s usually a buzzword to go along with it—we hear a lot about ‘hang dry’, ‘cured’, ‘hand trimmed’, or ‘hand finished’—but the most common claim is that a product did really well in another province,” says Roch from Lake City.
The good news is that for the most part—and despite the tendency to make grand claims—retailers find that companies are open to criticism.
“If it’s a sample, we open it right in front of them to have a look, and have had situations where the product didn’t follow through with the pitch,” says Roch. “It’s generally taken well and is followed up on. I recently had to give feedback on an infused pre-roll that was making big claims, but they ended up smoking very poorly.”
“We’re currently in a situation where there are far more products available than any store is able to sell, and so transparency and honesty from our suppliers with respect to their products is of utmost importance, as our customers expect the same from us.”
“We have occasionally questioned a company’s claims as to the effects of their products, or pushed back against promotions that appear to be inconsistent with regulatory requirements,” says Glinter. “To date, our comments and criticisms have generally been well received, and we’ve found most companies are doing their best to continuously improve.”
Also, where a product is very different from what has been described or promised, there are always other products to fill the gap.
“We’ve found most consumers are happy to continue to try different products until they find one that works for them,” Glinter says. “The more accurately suppliers can describe and promote their products, the more likely it is that a consumer who might enjoy them will be able to find them and try them.”
This knowledge and honesty is a big assist for budtenders who spend their days trying to match a consumer with a product. However, while engagement is key to customer gain and retention, different product categories come with their own challenges.
“One category I find that differs from others is concentrate,” says Roch. “A lot of brands doing concentrates claim they have a legacy operator who is ‘like a mad scientist’. Edibles are also a great example of when someone releases a unique product but hasn’t engaged in any way on how to position that product.”
Finding the value
The success of large value-based retail chains, such as Canna Cabana (owned by High Tide), suggests that there is demand for well-priced, quality cannabis. Getting this right is about knowing the market: some customers are eager for new products, while others prefer old standbys.
“We have a reputation for having a large selection of craft products, some of the best in the world,” says Fafard from The Pot Shack. “However, we also try to carry an assortment of value products. We like to communicate with our customers if we know a product is getting older and goes out at a reduced price.”
Overproduction remains a challenge in Canada. This not only weighs on price but also puts tremendous pressure on LPs and their representatives to move products.
“This pressure, and their natural loyalty to their company, leads to exaggerated claims on quality,” says Fafard.
Fafard notes also that some LPs hire third parties to represent their products, some of whom have limited knowledge, or may not have even tried the product. With more products chasing a finite number of customers, it’s not surprising that truthfulness and trust count for a lot.
“We’re currently in a situation where there are far more products available than any store is able to sell, and so transparency and honesty from our suppliers with respect to their products is of utmost importance, as our customers expect the same from us,” says Glinter.
At the end of the day, this often means store policies that promote honest conversations.
“We won’t outright tell someone who selects something they like that it’s bad; however, we will inform someone, should they ask, our direct opinion that something has not met our expectations,” says Roch. “Our credibility is key to our success.”
Payment processing platform Square has announced its entry into the Canadian marijuana market through a collaboration with Jane Technologies, an online service that enables customers to order cannabis for store pickup or delivery. In line with the partnership, Square is poised to launch an early-access program tailored for licensed cannabis dispensaries in Ontario. The program will allow dispensaries to begin testing Square for retail point of sale (POS) solution within their brick-and-mortar stores, paving the way for a broader launch later on.
In addition to payment processing, Square’s new cannabis client services also feature real-time inventory tracking across various retail locations and compliance notifications in the event that an order exceeds Canada’s legal marijuana product purchase thresholds.
Square has been collaborating with CBD companies since 2019, despite persistent barriers to banking marijuana businesses. Square began an invite-only trial program in May of that year to provide services to CBD vendors, and the business expanded the program in October of the same year.
The entry of an established, well-known payment platform and point-of-sale provider might put pressure on rivals currently operating in the cannabis industry. Many of these competitors are comparatively smaller in scale compared to their more traditional financial counterparts, focusing primarily on serving cannabis and other heavily regulated enterprises.
In the United States, the conundrum surrounding federal marijuana illegality renders many cannabis companies incapable of accepting card payments for cannabis transactions. Financial institutions find themselves confronted with potential liabilities and legal repercussions for facilitating services to cannabis entities, thereby prompting most of them to steer clear of the industry altogether.
Consequently, certain companies have resorted to unconventional measures, such as deploying “cashless ATMs” to obfuscate cannabis sales as routine cash withdrawals. In a recent development, a Maryland tax official revealed that they refrain from categorizing cannabis transactions as such on tax returns to safeguard banks from potential legal consequences.
This admission elicited criticism from a group opposing cannabis legalization, accusing the state of shielding banks engaging in activities that breach federal law. However, both the state and its banking partner, Wells Fargo, asserted that the transactions adhered to applicable legal frameworks and regulations.
This week, a vote is scheduled in Congress regarding legislation aimed at facilitating banking relationships with cannabis enterprises. Several groups, including 35 marijuana trade associations, drug-policy reform organizations and a leading national labor union, issued a joint appeal to Congress, urging the body to pass the banking bill before the year ends to address the “humanitarian toll” inflicted by frequent robberies targeting cash-heavy cannabis enterprises.
As more enterprises such as Square join the likes of Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. (NYSE: IIPR) in addressing the unique needs of the marijuana industry, the hurdles that cannabis companies have to go through in their day-to-day operations will gradually decrease.

I have chosen to write this essay in the form of a question and answer dialogue so as to present clear answers to the falsifications presently dividing our world.
Is the climate changing?
Yes
In what way?
In many ways. Everything that exists is undergoing a continuous process of change.
Can you explain..
This world, its biosphere and the universe within which the drama of life unfolds are fully interrelated and inseparable; all parts contributing to changes of the whole. Therefore to claim that any one factor, for example CO2. Is the causative agent of climate change, cannot be right.
But there is some causative agent at work raising temperatures and provoking climate change, is there not?
In spite of global climate institutions like the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) placing a heavily biased emphasis on the burning of hydrocarbons as the chief causative agent behind Global Warming/Climate Change, this is a gross reductionist misinterpretation of the reality. These ‘scientists’ are incapable of providing empirical evidence concerning the nature of this change, or indeed, whether global mean temperatures are actually rising, falling or remaining approximately the same.
So we can’t expect science, as formally taught in academic institutions, to have any answers?
Exactly. Nor should we give any credence to irresponsible politicians whose robotic response to any criticism of the CO2 story is “Follow the science.”
Only a basic grasp of quantum physics, with its recurring multi dimensional patterns of cause and effect, could begin to identify the causative agents behind discernible processes of change in the climate. Let alone qualify the existence of supposed ‘man made’ changes.
But surely we can safely say that observable, more extreme climate events are taking place at this time?
There do appear to be more extreme events. There can be a number of reasons for these, none of which are down to one specific causal agent. For example, continual thinning of the ozone layer, specific solar activity, a weaker magnetosphere and/or the continual shifting of the magnetic poles. Any one of these, or all three, can play on the changes you mention.
How is it possible that almost 100% of global political policy makers have uncritically accepted the veracity of computer modelling exercises (used by IPCC climatologists) as ‘absolute evidence’ of carbon dioxide being the key factor behind global warming?
To answer this requires an awareness of the psychological persuasiveness that operates behind an irrational belief in ‘science having the answer’. There is a great clamour for ‘a fixed remedy’ to any perceived problem, and when this doesn’t emerge, any invention is adopted that achieves consensus amongst like minded individuals and fits the parameters of the politically acceptable position of the day.
In other words, keeping the totalitarian globalist power structure on course at all costs.
Doesn’t this mean that a fabricated story, provided enough opinion formers can be persuaded to adopt it, could become the basis for all actions adopted to ‘stop global warming’?
Such a possibility is highly plausible. There is verifiable evidence of such fabrication coming from Bilderberger and Club of Rome meetings going back to 1972 and beyond. Plans centred around ways of keeping power in the hands of elite bankers and industrialists via creating climate scare stories to frighten the public into submitting to the seeming authority of corrupted computer modelling.
Is it wrong to put weather and climate together? Or are they essentially the same?
No, they are not the same. Climate is bigger than weather. Climate is directly associated with our solar system. It has cosmic origins. Only secondary is the influence of our planetary activities.
Weather patterns on earth are influenced by geological activities coupled with the crude interventions of man. On the geological front: volcanic eruptions; El Nino ocean current changes and polar shifts, for example.
In the man induced sphere: extensive atmospheric geoengineering (chemtrails); ionospheric heating (HAARP); direct energy weapons; wars; electromagnetic radiation (EMF); concretisation and desertification of the natural environment; chemical farming monocultures and the significant loss of biodiversity this causes.
So are ‘weather change’ and ‘climate change’ being deliberately confused with one another?
It is all too clear that the proper distinction is not being made – and this opens the door for mass exploitation of public opinion. Such obfuscation can be traced back more than three decades. Just recall the evolving names being given to this phenomenon: ‘the greenhouse effect’, then ‘global warming’ and now ‘climate change’.
The general public has been forced to believe that acute weather changes have as their causative agent man made climate change/global warming activities. This increasingly looks like intentional obfuscation of the reality.
Yes it does. However, we cannot completely compartmentalise climate from weather. All the fundamental energetic forces of the universe, including all planets, stars, meteors and comets are at no point divided from one another. We are talking about ONE ever changing, ever evolving entity, composed of billions of energetic expressions of our Creator’s will (design). This is the big picture.
Can you say more about this big picture?
We need to recognise the distinction between ‘macrocosm’ and ‘microcosm’. It is on the microcosmic level that we can discern/experience – up close – differences of emphasis, behaviour patterns and subtle changes to seeming norms. On the macrocosmic level events are too big to witness up close; instead we experience them through our senses, intuitions and long term observations.
So, for example, we can surmise that volcanic activity is caused by movements of the planets tectonic plates. But the movement of the tectonic plates might be caused by magnetic shifts of energy in the cosmos. And the shifts of energy in the cosmos may be caused by imploding black holes or the birthing of new stars.
Existence is a holistic quantum event. Thus one can never say that Weather and Climate are wholly separate from each other. But we can say that they are ‘predominantly’ expressions of local earthly activities (microcosmic), or ‘predominantly expressions of cosmic activities (macrocosmic).
Do those who force ‘Net Zero’ global controls on humanity have any sense of this? Or are they operating in the dark?
If they do have any sense of this it is because those who choose dark and devious strategies in order to get their way, are, on a certain intellectual level, aware of the cosmic order of things and how to manipulate them.
At the active end of forced controls on mankind the perpetrators are psychopathic and psychotic individuals whose creed is essentially tunnel vision, narcissistic and anti-life. These are the people who have chosen to enforce a despotic, repressive and fake ‘stop climate change’ regime on the people of planet earth.
So we cannot look to mainstream ‘science’ as in any way a trustworthy guide to what’s going on if its spokes people take their orders from such unhinged sources…
No, definitely not. Only scientists who follow a quantum oriented intuitive and empirical discipline can properly interpret the complexities of not just climate change, but all the key interactions that influence the behaviour of living organisms within the evolutionary movement of the cosmos.
Hmm… that’s a massive new paradigm for humanity to digest..
It is. But unless it can be digested – in stages for most of us – we cannot and will not be able to rescue our planet from the blinkered, suicidal agenda it is being forced to adhere to.
Have caring people got some role to play in helping to bring an end to this coldly calculated exploitation?
Most certainly. Let’s take a heart led view: it all starts with one key thing ‘love of life’. Provided love of life is stronger than fear, cynicism and despair, the catalytic emotions that drive us are directly in line with evolutionary universal forces. An umbilical cord with our Creator.
From this base – kept properly primed – we gain powers to organise ourselves to fight for the defence of the glorious diversity of this unique gift of life – which includes esisting the deadly dogma of a false science.
A science that has the audacity to claim it is necessary to uproot the basic tenets of our daily lives, submit to the rules of a centralised dictatorship and agree to the blocking-off of CO2, the benign gas that every plant needs in order to make the oxygen that we and the animal kingdom cannot live without. We have to find in ourselves the determination to abort this mass genocide.
So we have to also look to ourselves to find the answers?
At the dynamic nucleus point of all our individual lives is the same birthstone that formed the universe of which we are an integral part and expression. One will therefore find that artists, philosophers, traditional farmers and spiritually oriented individuals are far better equipped than institutional scientists, politicians and ‘expert’ decision makers to lead the planet through this crisis.
Wisdom, truth and justice are the manifestations of a deepening understanding that ‘love of life’ is a condition we are blessed to have been gifted by the omnipotent originator of this great firmament. Being so blessed, it is our responsibility to take the helm and set our compass according to the beacon lit by that most profound calling of our souls.
All ‘authority figures’ who choose not to be guided by the source point of their own lives, but by hostile posers and deceivers, must be recognised and treated as the criminals they are. Those forcing
the WEF Green Deal ‘Net Zero’, ‘Stop Climate Change’ chimera on mankind, belong to this group.
Our job is to boldly move ahead carrying with us the ever growing recognition that we are the standard bearers of a dynamic process of transformative change. A total metamorphosis of deliberately inflicted darkness into its exact counterpart – a great flowering of the creative genius and passion of an awaking humanity.

Overcoming the Robotic Mind – Why Humanity Must Come Through
Beginning October 1, Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is reducing the SKU listing fee for cannabis producers.
Previously $1,500, the reduced fee to list a new SKU to sell into the Alberta market is now $250.
The changes were shared with producers on September 29 as part of an ongoing effort by what ALGC says is its focus on “removing legislative barriers and red tape that impede producers and retailers, and support business.”
Terri Blooms, CEO of Almanac Grow Corp, an Alberta-based producer that sells under the Plaid Trout brand, says this change is a good start, but the AGLC needs to do more to help a struggling industry, including lowering more province-level taxes applied to cannabis in Alberta.
“This 83 percent reduction in listing fees is a good start. It’s a shame so many Alberta-based licence holders are struggling in their home province. Hopefully, this is just the start of changes. We’re hopeful direct delivery is next, and, critically, they’ve got to reconsider the 16.8 percent additional tax applied on top of the federal excise tax. It’s unsustainable, and in business-friendly Alberta, it’s not right that the provincial government collects more revenue per gram than the grower.”
It’s better that producers only have to pay AGLC $250 to list a new product instead of $1,500. But that fee is irrelevant if AGLC won’t let you list a new SKU. It would be better if producers were permitted to offer whatever products they like, and were paid on a consignment basis once those products are purchased by retailers.”
Tim Mallett, the CEO and master grower at Alberta Bud, and a board member with the Alberta Cannabis Micro Licence Association (ACMLA) says the lower charge will help, but still has concerns with challenges on selling into the centrally-planned Alberta marke, calling it “too little, too late.”
“It’s better that producers only have to pay AGLC $250 to list a new product instead of $1,500. But that fee is irrelevant if AGLC won’t let you list a new SKU. It would be better if producers were permitted to offer whatever products they like, and were paid on a consignment basis once those products are purchased by retailers.”
Alberta currently lists about 750 cannabis retailers, with more than 200 producers and brands approved to sell in the province.
The Path Of Seeking Truth, The Attacks We Receive,
The Lessons To Learn
By Bernhard Guenther
The greater the sincerity with which we seek out the truth – and the stronger the voice we use to speak out about our discoveries – the more heightened in intensity the ‘push-back’ reactivity will be, and the attacks we receive shall arrive in ways that catch us completely unaware.
Relationships are (by their nature) amongst the most difficult experiences for human beings to navigate (not just the romantic kind), but for those who are dedicated to truth-seeking and inner work, they can become even more emotionally and psychologically challenging.
Does that mean that pursuing this path is a lost cause – that being part of a larger consciousness-raising movement within the global community is, paradoxically, a lonely and isolating lifestyle? Not at all.
We have to understand (on a primal level) that we are far more powerful than we think we are; there’s a spiritual war underway, and the weapons we possess (in defense and protection of ourselves) are embodied knowledge, awareness, and our aspiration to the Divine – our true Nature – which is calling us forth to embrace this adventure of consciousness as spiritual warriors.
In fact, the greatest deception can be found in occult entities, their human puppets, and the matrix forces fooling us into believing that we are fundamentally powerless and thus incapable of transcending their machinations.
Let us look at this predicament from a different vantage point:
The fact that you are being attacked (and attracting that kind of attention in the first place) shows that you are latching onto something – a larger truth – that is a threat to the Matrix Control System’s game plan, whether it be through the information you share, the ‘voice’ you possess, or perhaps it’s due to simply being who you are (as you shed layers of programming and trauma) and what you are here to do (but may haven’t realized what that is just yet).
Being targeted can show you that you are actually on the right track. It doesn’t mean that you “attracted” these interferences to you because of the over-simplified New Age distortions of the “law of attraction” and your “negative” thoughts, just like Neo didn’t attract Agent Smith’s attacks because of his “shitty attitude.”
But being “targeted” is also NOT an excuse for getting in victim/blame mode [self-pity] or martyr/savior mode [self-importance.] Many truth seekers fall into that trap and create more paranoia of being a “targeted individual” as the matrix forces feed into people’s trauma and target all the blindspots and weaknesses within.
As Montalk noted: “Attacks serve to identify our own weaknesses, thus providing focus for where to take the next step on one’s path of spiritual awakening.”
After all, all there is are lessons and EVERYTHING has a teaching function for your individual soul evolution and for the collective during this Time of Transition in this ultimate adventure of consciousness.
So, activate your spiritual warrior essence, take self-responsibility, and stay grounded in your true Self in service of the Divine.
The reality is that struggle and suffering are inevitable traits to be endured on the awakening path, for they reveal all that is “false” within you and in the world.
The New Age has corrupted this truth by sowing the bypassing seeds of illusion, such as the extremely distorted ideas involving the “You Create Your Own Reality” solipsistic fallacy, so as to have you blaming yourself for your misfortunes.
But it is not black and white, and there ARE moments in life where we do find ourselves in unfortunate situations and challenges that arise through our own blind spots, unconscious core beliefs, self-sabotage patterns, and unconscious behavior patterns due to past trauma, childhood wounding, or refusal to make our shadow conscious which then will act out in the external world as “fate” or we project it on others [as Carl Jung noted.]
It takes a high level of self-awareness, self-knowledge, psychological/spiritual insights, and consistent inner work to know what is “yours” and what is not. This process and the insights gained should be utilized as lessons and reality feedback for your inner work, but there is way more to the ‘larger picture’ story.
At the same time, we do need to be careful in unnecessarily attracting the attention and targeted attacks of “the General Law,” which is the esoteric term for the “Matrix Control System” [Mouravieff/Gnosis]. Many truth seekers also fall into this trap of the “revolutionary mindset,” as Gurdjieff called it, as the matrix forces trigger people’s unconscious stuff to make them react mechanically. “Outrage porn” is a good example of that.
“[..]But it is entirely in his interest not to show the new attitude which he has taken towards exterior life. The ‘World’ will be hostile to him [the seeker], because its own purposes are different; it is not in his interest to provoke this tendency, and even less to keep it alive. The day will come — if he remains in the same milieu — where, apart from rare exceptions he will be openly or secretly hated….
This negative attitude is the result of the action of the General Law [Matrix], which, as we know, tends to keep man in his place. Not being able to do this directly by the action of Illusion, the General Law, when it loses its dominion over the man who ‘moves’, acts indirectly by the mediation of those around him [Agent Smith syndrome]….
The more he progresses with his work, the more he becomes an object of hate. That is why it is said that: ‘no prophet is acceptable in his own country’ and also: ‘A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, among his own kin and in his own house.‘[…]”
– Boris Mouravieff, Gnosis
Blind revolutionary impulses (i.e., truth-seeking without grounding in sincere self-work and carefully-vetted inner knowledge) will transform a person into that which they had sought to fight against: the trap of the reactionary revolutionary mind, which is only focused on the outside world of our third-dimensional reality, locked in a vain struggle against the shadows projected onto the cave wall as we miss the deeper lessons during this Time of Transition.
Hence, the inner and outer work always need to go together, for they are essentially one and the same.
Godspeed Bernhard Guenther

As the cooler nights set in, the blooms and foliage on many of our annuals and perennials are beginning to fade. It’s time to get out into the garden and tidy things up as the growing season winds down. An easy and effective way to accomplish this task is the chop-and-drop method, which serves as a mulch and a way to feed the soil!
How To Chop-And-Drop
This permaculture gardening technique is no-waste and recreates what happens naturally in a forest. Chop-and-drop involves cutting back plants in the garden and letting them fall to the ground, where they can naturally decompose and fertilize their own roots.
Cut the plant down to soil level, leaving the roots beneath the surface for the earthworms to munch on over the winter. They’ll be aerating the soil as they feast!
As you continue checking off your fall garden chore list, you can cover the material you’ve chopped and dropped with layers of leaf mold and compost. Your plants will thank you for the rich soil come the spring.
The best part? There is no need for a wheelbarrow to remove dead material; all you need are pruners or garden shears.
Golden Rules
This gardening technique is perfect for spent annuals and vegetables or shrubs and trees that require pruning in the fall.
The golden rule? All plant material you chop and drop must be pest and disease-free! If they’re not, you’ll be spreading problems throughout the garden. Diseased plant material should be burned or disposed of in the trash, never composted.
It’s also better to chop and drop before the plant goes to seed to avoid it taking over the garden in the spring.
Don’t forget to leave some flower seed heads for the birds to eat this winter. Not everything must be deadheaded or chopped and dropped, but it is a wonderful way to naturally feed the garden!
Cannabis Now shared highlights from the recent Haul, err, Hall of Flowers in Ontario.
Pubcos:
Heritage Cannabis shared its Q3 2023 report with net revenue of just $8.1 million and a comprehensive loss of just over $1 million.
Auxly Cannabis Groupannounced that it received an interim extension of the maturity date of the amended and restated credit facility between its wholly-owned subsidiary Auxly Leamington Inc. and a syndicate of lenders, led by the Bank of Montreal as administrative agent, until November 30, 2023.
Greenway Cannabis announced two new SKUs accepted by the OCS through the Winter 2023-2024 product call: a 7g package of Berry Sunset and their MillRite branded 2×0.5g pre-rolls of Lavender Haze.
Tilray announced its new ‘Let ‘Er Rip’ campaign, with four new dried flower SKUs and two Crumble Cones pre-rolls.
SNDL and Nova Cannabis are still waiting on one provincial regulator to finish reviewing their plan for a strategic partnership. SNDL and Nova anticipate that the transaction will close on or before October 30, 2023, subject to receipt of regulatory approval. But the closing date has been delayed several times for the same reason.
Aurora Cannabis says it will raise $33.8 million in share offering to Canaccord Genuity for 46,250,000 company shares at a price of 73 cents per share.
Research
A study from the University of Calgary found that people with a cannabis use disorder (CUD) are at greater risk of experiencing a heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular event than those without the condition.
The overall prevalence of documented CUD was 0.8% and is defined as a problematic pattern of cannabis use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, including an unsuccessful desire to quit, often consuming more cannabis than intended, and spending a great deal of time seeking, using, and recovering from cannabis.
Approximately 2.4 percent and 1.5 percent of participants in the CUD and unexposed groups experienced an adverse cardiovascular disease event. The study says it cannot causally attribute the elevated risk to CUD.
Also, the Globe and Mail covered the groundbreaking news that cannabis labels inflate THC potency contained in products, with comments from Borna Zlamalik from OrganiGram, Rob O’Brien from Supra Research, John Slaughter from High North, Gord Nichol from North 40, and Miguel Martin from Aurora Cannabis.
Law Enforcement
A Manitoba woman who was arrested last November for allegedly handing out THC-infused candies on Halloween has now pleaded guilty to one charge of supplying cannabis to a young person and one charge of possessing cannabis that is not packed, labelled, and stamped, both being offences under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act.
Following an investigation that lasted more than two and a half years, the Sûreté du Québec seized more than 56,000 cannabis plants for which the alleged illegal producers had 88 registration certificates for personal production for medical purposes issued by Health Canada.
Reports LaPress: “In summary, this investigation demonstrates that a group of individuals are at the head of a criminal cell that fraudulently uses certificates to produce illicit cannabis on a large scale. Several people are used as nominees to obtain registration certificates from Health Canada.
Nova Scotia RCMP and US Homeland Security Investigations announced the disruption of an international drug ring that included a large quantity of cocaine and cannabis. The network, considered one of the more sophisticated drug trafficking networks within Atlantic Canada, was facilitating the movement of imported cocaine throughout Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.
