Welcome to the Grower’s Circle – Canada remains the world leader in regulated cannabis cultivation and we are proud to share the news of our homegrown expertise with the world. To keep cannabis cultivation on the edge of innovation, it’s important to generate an exchange of ideas and insight between growers. To that end, Grow Up is introducing The Grower’s Circle – a one day series of technical sessions that allow growers (both experienced and novice) to get more out their cultivation practices, courtesy of the shared insights of others.
Technical Workshop Description
During Prohibition, cannabis breeding was largely limited to the production of a single cannabinoid – THCA. But with a freer rein for research, we are learning more about this complex plant and all that it offers both medicinally and recreationally. The discoveries stand to benefit a much larger segment of the population. And they suggest a rethink in many of our long-held breeding practices.

Technical Workshop Description
The sea of green (SOG), the screen of green (ScrOG), monster cropping, lollipopping. It often seems like, overnight, cannabis cultivation has developed an entire language of its own. Well, here’s your immersion course, a comparative conversation that’ll cover all of the above, and more. Meanwhile, despite its general durability, the very diversity of current cannabis cultivation has seen new permutations of exposure to pathogens, pests and harmful fungi. Those brown tips on your leaves, sudden outbreaks of yellow or white patches or holes, could jeopardize your entire yield. We’ll trade experiences in what afflicts our crops, the most effective responses, and prophylactic measures to avoid exposure in the first place.

Technical Workshop Description
Farms used to use tools. Now they use instrumentation – spectral imaging, C02 misting, UV, ultrasonic extraction and other technologies. Some of them are tried, tested and proven to increase yields to meet any explosion in demand. Others have even greater promise, but the jury is still out. Many of them can be found on our convention floor. Drop your tarps and baler twine and find out what can work for you in this future-focused session. In a sink-or-swim future, the best tech wins.

Technical Workshop Description
It would once have been hard to imagine, but as advances in concentrates continue, simply smoking the flower seems destined to be a niche activity. The demand for edibles and tinctures has fueled R&D into concentrates like hash, oils, waxes, etc. and inspired new methods of extraction. This session will look at the future of consumption and the optimal means of extraction for emerging markets.

Technical Workshop Description
“Weed” wasn’t just a euphemism. By nature, cannabis is hardy, and amateur growers traditionally gave little thought to its nutritional needs. But as the understanding of the plant has grown exponentially, so has the appreciation of how different soil nutrients can dramatically affect the robustness of cannabinoid and terpene profiles (and how some soil attributes can actually hinder growth). Here’s where you’ll learn about the food under your feet.

Literally our most illuminating session. The phenomenon of photosynthesis is where it all begins, but researchers continue to parse how the process is utilized and optimized. What do we really know about what the plant “wants” from light? How effectively does artificial light mimic the benefits of solar rays? More importantly, what are the aspects of light that are most beneficial to cannabinoid and terpene production?
